BEIJING, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met here Thursday with the foreign guests attending the 2008 Annual General Meeting of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED). During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on how China could properly handle the relation between stable, fast economic growth and environmental protection, and achieve sustainable development, against the backdrop of the aggravating global financial crisis and the downturn of global growth. ATHENS, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao finished the last leg of his five-nation trip here on Wednesday and embarked on his way home.     The trip, which began on Nov. 14, took him to a financial summit in Washington and the Economic Leaders' Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Lima.     He also paid state visits to Costa Rica, Cuba, Peru and Greece.     At the Washington summit, the Chinese leader outlined China's propositions on responding to the international financial crisis, explained major measures adopted by the Chinese government to ensure financial stability and economic development, and made proposals on reforming the international financial system.     At the APEC meeting, President Hu made proposals on furthering Asia-Pacific regional cooperation in dealing with the world financial crisis, the Doha Round of WTO negotiations, food and energy security, and other pressing issues facing the world and the region.     During his state visits to Costa Rica, Cuba, Peru and Greece, the Chinese president and leaders of the four nations exchanged views on the further development of bilateral relations and reached broad consensus on expanding friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation.     In Lima, Hu and his Peruvian counterpart Alan Garcia announced the conclusion of a bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) and the upgrading of bilateral ties to a strategic partnership.

BEIJING, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang said on Wednesday that increased environment protection efforts would help significantly to boost domestic demand and open new economic growth points. China would continue to make environmental protection a priority to benefit the people and ensure a stable economy, he told the annual meeting of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED).     China faced difficult tasks in protecting its environment as itwas the world's biggest developing country with huge economic growth potential. CAIRO, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang said on Thursday that China is willing to further the strategic cooperative ties with Egypt which was established in 1999.     During his meeting with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Li said the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the ties in next year should be an opportunity to further such a relationship.     "The two sides should take advantage of this opportunity to strengthen the strategic coordination and cooperation and enrich the contents of bilateral relations," he said.     Li suggested the two countries to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, transport, communications, tourism and human resources as well as explore new areas.     Meanwhile, Mubarak expressed beliefs that with the joint efforts of leaders of the two countries, Egypt-China strategic cooperative relations will make new progress.     Li arrived here on Wednesday afternoon for a four-day official visit to Egypt at the invitation of Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Nazef.     He told Mubarak that the purpose of his visit is to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, deepen the relations with Egyptian and promote relations with Arab and African countries.     He hailed Egypt, which he believes plays an important role in international and regional affairs, as an important cooperative partner of China among developing countries.     "The Chinese side attaches great importance to developing Sino-Egyptian relations," Li noted, adding that the two countries have always respected each other, treated each other frankly and witnessed continuously deepened political trust and rapid development of pragmatic cooperation in various areas.     "The relationship between the two nations has become a model for cooperation among developing countries," he said.     Mubarak asked Li to convey his regards to Chinese President Hu Jintao and other Chinese leaders. He said he has maintained close and friendly relations with several generations of Chinese leaders, and Egypt is pleased to see China's rapid development, and hopes it can be stronger.     He said he has been working to promote the development of bilateral ties, and attaches great importance to developing friendly cooperation in all fields with China.     Li also briefed Mubarak on China's measures in countering the global financial crisis, including adjusting macroeconomic policies in a timely manner, implementing proactive fiscal policy and moderate monetary policy and expanding domestic demand to promote economic growth.     He said China believes that these measures will be conducive to China's economy to maintain steady and rapid development.     After the meeting, Li briefed the Egyptian media on the meeting with the president.     Li also held talks with Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Nazef, and the two attended a signing ceremony on cooperative documents in fishery.     Besides meetings with Egyptian leaders, Li will also attend the opening ceremony of a China-Egyptian business forum in the afternoon.     Egypt is the second leg of Li's first overseas trip since he took office as vice premier in March. The trip has brought him to Indonesia and will bring him to Kuwait.     Among his entourages are senior foreign affairs, development, commercial and banking officials.     According to Chinese statistics, trade volume between China and Egypt has reached more than 5.3 billion U.S. dollars as of October this year, a 44-percent increase compared with the same period of last year.     By the end of July, about 570 Chinese companies have invested in the northeastern African country.     In addition, more and more Egyptian students begin to study Chinese language as the bilateral ties ushered into a new phase. Up to now, there are five Egyptian universities that have established Chinese language departments.

BRUSSELS, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived in Brussels on Thursday evening for an official visit to the European Union (EU) headquarters.     The premier was welcomed at the Brussels international airport by European Commission officials, Belgian Foreign Ministry officials, officials of the Chinese mission to the EU and the Chinese embassy in Belgium, as well as Chinese students studying in Belgium.     In a written statement distributed to the press upon his arrival, Wen said the world is undergoing profound changes with a volatile international situation, more regional conflicts and a spreading financial crisis.     In this context, to enhance dialogue, promote consultations and deepen cooperation is in the interests of both China and the EU, and in line with the trend of the times, which is for peace, stability and development, he said.     Wen said he is looking forward to having frank and in-depth exchange of views with EU leaders on China-EU relations, on how to jointly deal with the global financial crisis, and on other international and regional issues of common concern.     "I hope and believe that this visit, as an important trip of confidence, will enhance the confidence of China and the EU in their future relations and in practical and mutually beneficial cooperation. I also hope and believe that this visit will enhance the confidence of the international community in the all-round strategic partnership between China and the EU," he said.     During his two-day visit in Brussels, Wen is scheduled to hold talks with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso. He will also meet EU foreign and security policy chief Javier Solana.     Brussels is the third leg of Wen's European tour after Switzerland, where he attended the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, and Germany. The trip will also take him to Spain and Britain.
