A U.S. District Judge has ordered that the USPS conduct a sweep of several mail sorting facilities on Tuesday to ensure that all mail-in ballots will be promptly delivered to state election boards.According to The Hill and The Daily Beast, Judge Emmet G. Sullivan of U.S. District Court for D.C. ordered that the USPS conduct sweeps at select mail sorting facilities between 12:30 p.m. ET and 3 p.m. ET to ensure "no ballots have been held up." Any ballots discovered in the sweet are to be immediately sent to election officials in the state.Sullivan's ruling comes after record numbers of Americans participated in early and mail-in voting amid the COVID-19 pandemic.In recent months, the USPS has come under criticism for attempting to implement policy changes that would lead to slower mail delivery. While Postmaster General Louis DeJoy has said those changes won't take place until after the election, reports indicate that USPS' on-time delivery of election material has dropped in the final days of voting.In response to the judge's order, the USPS issued the following statement to E.W. It aims to help people realize that science can help manage chaos.The "Getting Through It" podcast is centered around a renowned expert whom many consider to be the voice of calm in a crisis.Dr. Lucy Jones takes on terrifying topics, like earthquakes, with ease. Back in August 2019, Jones led a group of Southern California leaders and curious earthquake adventurers on a tour along the San Andreas fault. She discussed "lifelines" which are electricity, water, gas, transportation and telecommunications lines, things that connect us all. She discussed how all of those things would be impacted during an earthquake, and what that would mean for us all.And while a terrifying topic, she does it with ease, easing fear for listeners. Now, she's taking on the next fear, the one we can't stop talking about.“It’s a scary time but if you understand the world it makes it less scary and that’s what I’m trying to do to help us all get through one of the really big change moments,” Dr. Jones said. “It’s not just that people are dying, this type of disruption will change our society. We will be a different culture in a year.”In 2016, Jones, a seismologist who worked with the US Geological Survey for more than 30 years, founded the Dr. Lucy Jones Center for Science and Society with the mission of helping communities adapt to the "dynamic changes of the world around them." Her new podcast "Getting Through It" does just that.“We see all of these things that make something frightening or not and they happen over different time scales,” Dr. Jones said. “The earthquake is in a minute, the pandemic in a year, a flood in a month, climate change over 100 years, but all are disrupting society, killing people and damaging the economy and one of the big things we see in these situations is we’re frightened.”Thus far, the podcast has taken on topics like "surviving the pandemic with science" and "why you feel/fear the way you do about disasters."“There’s these sort of big picture understanding of how humans operate, how disasters affect us that have a lot of implications right now,” Dr. Jones said. “This is going to be a tough year. The pandemic is not over, we’re handling it worse than a lot of other countries for a lot of reasons, and right there it easy to blame. There’s a lot to go around but if we focus on that, where’s that going to lead us?”Her co-host and community resilience expert John Bwarie says they've been getting a lot of public reaction during the pandemic. People wanted Dr. Jones to weigh in.“Everyone’s at home, people are seeking, craving information that gives them a sense of calm and gives them a sense of control over the crisis because someone they trust is giving them information they can use. A nurse in Oregon who bragged about flouting COVID-19 rules in a TikTok video isn't employed with Salem Health anymore, the hospital confirmed to CNN and The Oregonian.Last month, Ashley Grames, an oncology nurse, was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation after posting a video on Nov. 27 to social media bragging about not wearing a mask, still traveling, and letting her kids participate in playdates.According to KOIN in Portland, Oregon, Grames received an Interim Consent Order (ICO) for her departure effective Dec. 8, according to state records.The Oregonian reported that Grames agreed in the ICO to stop practicing nursing.According to the Oregon State Board of Nursing, ICOs are not considered discipline and remain in effect until the board votes to vacate the order and allow the nurse to practice again. 842

A pair of cousins has been charged in the murder of pizza delivery driver Clarence Taper in a Milwaukee apartment. According to the criminal complaint, Mekael Kennedy, 17, from Hartford and his cousin D’Andre Kennedy, 25, of Milwaukee robbed and shot the driver on Monday, Sept. 11 when he came to make a delivery. They then took the pizza Taper was delivering into the apartment and ate it.One of his regular customers, Sheryl Cash said Taper went out of his way to help the older residents who live there. "The man, Mr. Clarence, ever since I have been ordering from them he always delivered my food. He would stand there and talk with you. He was just real nice and kind. And he didn't have to come to your door, but he would come to your door,"  Cash said.Police said on September 15, Mekael Kennedy's girlfriend placed an order to Buddy's Pizza and Steak, where Taper delivered from. Mekael Kennedy took his cousin, D'Andre Kennedy's gun, put on a hockey mask and demanded Taper's money. Mekael Kennedy told police he had his safety on and didn't know why the gun went off. According to the criminal complaint, Mekael Kennedy told the police the driver lunged at him and he didn’t know why the gun went off because he thought the safety was on.But D'Andre Kennedy said his cousin shot Taper because he tried to take his mask off.When D'andre Kennedy found out, he cleaned the gun and threw the bullets away. Mekeal Kennedy also admitted to police that he robbed a Papa John's delivery driver earlier that same week but did not hurt him because he didn't fight back."It was senseless, it was just senseless," Cash said.Mekael is being charged as an adult and faces armed robbery and murder charges. If convicted he could face up to 95 years in prison. D’Andre was charged with harboring a felon and obstructing an officer and could face four years behind bars.  1938
