ALPINE (CNS) - A ceremony will be held at the Alpine Community Center Saturday to induct 20 honorees on the Alpine Veterans Wall of Fame.The ceremony will feature a performance by local color guards and an appearance by the Patriot Guard Riders in addition to tributes to current members of the wall. The monument, which opened on Memorial Day in 2011, includes roughly 800 tiles, representing active-duty military members and veterans from all eras and branches of the military."Our No. 1 goal is to say thank you and that wall is a huge thank you to those who wore the uniform," Wall of Fame Chairman Dan Foster said. "I want them to know that someone cared."The ceremony is expected to begin at 9 a.m. and is free to attend. A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against the NBA in the death of Zeke Upshaw, who collapsed and died suddenly during the final minutes of a March 24 game.Attorneys Ben Crump and Bob Hillard filed the lawsuit on behalf of Upshaw's mother, Jewel at the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York on Wednesday. The lawsuit stems from a March 24 game where Upshaw, who played for the Detroit Pistons' developmental league affiliate Grand Rapids Drive, collapsed and entered full cardiac arrest. According to the lawsuit, for over five minutes, no life-saving measure was taken to address Upshaw's condition. Upshaw, who was 26 years old at the time, was then kept on life support for two days and then died. "When the otherwise healthy heart of a professional NBA athlete suddenly stops during a game there is absolutely no reason, in 2018, that his heart cannot be immediately restarted," Hillard said. "No attempts were made to save Zeke Upshaw's life. No CPR, no defibrillation, nothing. This is the tragedy of this case, Zeke should be alive today, the human consequences are difficult to quantify."Changes must come to the NBA and we are bringing the lawsuit to cause those changes. ALPINE (CNS) - A 7-year old tiger at Alpine's Lions Tigers & Bears animal rescue facility died of injuries inflicted by a fellow tiger, it was announced Tuesday.Maverick suffered fatal injuries after he and the other tiger -- Moka - - were accidentally allowed to come into contact with one another on Monday. The animals were living in separate enclosures, according to Lions Tigers & Bears founder Bobbi Brink, who said no staff or visitors were harmed.The staff veterinarian assessed both animals afterward. Moka has scratches, but no serious injuries."This was a human error, and one we're so deeply heartbroken about," Brink said. "When caring for a 400-plus-pound apex predator, layered safety measures must be established, and this is exactly what we've implemented at our accredited sanctuary since our founding."Unfortunately, one of our safety measures was mistakenly missed, and because these magnificent, massive animals are wild, their reactions to their surroundings -- especially new situations -- are unpredictable," she said.According to Brink, the nonprofit organization regularly conducts staff safety trainings, including one on emergency protocols last weekend. She said the protocols will be reviewed extensively this week.Maverick was rescued on April 20, 2014, at 9 months old. He was born in captivity and purchased illegally by someone who did not have the proper licensing to own an exotic animal. California Fish & Wildlife personnel seized Maverick and reached out to Lions Tigers & Bears to provide him with a home."There is an inherent risk when keeping apex predators in captivity, and we would like nothing more than to see an end to this, but until then, and as long as our sanctuary is needed, we will continue to be there for these animals in need," Brink said. A woman in Pennsylvania cannot keep a winning lottery ticket worth more than million, a judge ruled, because of how she acquired the ticket.The case came down to how the Acme store, where Beverlie Seltzer works just outside of Philadelphia, handles lottery tickets that are printed by mistake on the automated terminal put in place by the state’s Lottery Commission.The judge noted the protocol is that the store must pay the commission for each mistake ticket, but the store can keep any winnings from those tickets.In the trial court’s summary says Seltzer began scanning the mistake tickets during her shift, shortly after the Match 6 drawing. She typically would discard losing tickets and leave winning tickets for the office coordinator to process.“As she scanned through them, she discovered that one of the mistake tickets was a winning ticket, in the amount of ,150,000.00. At this point, after learning the ticket was a winner, [instead of leaving the ticket for the coordinator to process the next day,] [Ms.] Seltzer took .00 in cash out of her purse, rang up her own transaction, and put the .00 in the register in an attempt to purchase the ticket. She was still on the clock at the time,” the court summary reads.Seltzer then reportedly told coworkers and her supervisor she won the lottery, “though claiming that she could not remember the time when she purchased the ticket.”Acme supervisors learned what happened after reviewing security tapes. When she was confronted, Seltzer denied it and contacted the lottery to claim the reward. Acme filed suit to determine the owner of the ticket.“When Ms. Seltzer in this instance deviated from the Acme procedures that she usually followed, she acted surreptitiously and was not forthcoming about the circumstances of the purchase,” the judge wrote. “Even viewing the evidence in the light most favorable to Ms. Seltzer, no reasonable fact-finder could conclude that Ms. Seltzer acted with the good faith belief that she was permitted by law or by Acme’s policies to give Acme in exchange for ,150,000. Almost 30 million Facebook users' phone numbers and email addresses were accessed by hackers in the biggest security breach in the company's history, Facebook said on Friday. The attackers accessed even more details on 14 million of those users, including the area where they live, their relationship status and their religion.The new details come two weeks after Facebook first announced that attackers had access to 50 million users' accounts -- meaning they could have logged in as those users. Facebook said on Friday that, "We now know that fewer people were impacted than we originally thought," and said that 30 million people had been impacted.For the 14 million worst hit by the breach, the attackers were able to access the following information, Facebook said: "username, gender, locale/language, relationship status, religion, hometown, self-reported current city, birthdate, device types used to access Facebook, education, work, the last 10 places they checked into or were tagged in, website, people or Pages they follow, and the 15 most recent searches."Facebook said it will send a message to the 30 million users affected in the coming days.
