A contractor says the man suspected of killing a University of Utah student who vanished nearly two weeks ago had asked him to build a secret soundproof room in his home.Ayoola Ajayi, 31, was arrested Friday in connection with the disappearance of 23-year-old Mackenzie Lueck. He's expected to be charged with her murder and several other counts including, aggravated kidnapping, police have said.The contractor, Brian Wolf, told CNN he met with Ajayi at his Salt Lake City home for a consult on some drywall work. Ajayi's house is five miles from the park where the college student was last seen.When Wolf arrived, he said, Ajayi asked him to build a room with a secret door before his Mormon girlfriend arrived in town.Wolf said Ajayi wanted to install a thumb scanner on the room's entrance so he would be the only person allowed to enter. The room had to be soundproof with a few hooks installed up high, Wolf said.Ajayi told Wolf he wanted to listen to music as loud as he could and wanted to install a wine-rack on the hooks, Wolf recalled.The contractor, who had been referred by a plumber, said he became nervous by Ajayi's requests."People ask me to build all kind of stuff all the time, but nothing like this. Just like you see at a restaurant or salon, hospitals will offer up their own menu of services, with the prices of the procedures right next to them. "Transparency helps everybody,” says Kevin Flynn, with Health Advocates. “It eliminates fraud. It eliminates waste." Flynn says although it seems great, the hospital prices can be deceiving. "But for you and me, the person on the street, it doesn't mean a whole lot, Flynn explains. "While the hospital charges a certain price, ultimately it's your insurance company that's setting everything." Flynn says to keep in mind the prices listed don't include you using insurance, co-pays or deductibles. Companies such as Healthcare Bluebook and Fair Price show patients the average in network price of procedures. They compile patients claims data from all over. "What the hospital charges is one thing,” Flynn says. “What the insurance company actually pays is completely different.” So, the next time you need to get a procedure , Flynn recommends calling your insurance company. "It's much better to talk to your insurance company before you go and know approximately what you are going to pay, as opposed to just looking up online of this new thing seeing what the hospital charges," Flynn says. 1355

There are tens of thousands of sexual assault cases that not only go untold, but unsolved. Joyful Heart Foundation is a non-profit fighting to get backlogged rape kits sitting on evidence shelves tested in order to clear more cases. "No matter where they live and no matter what their zip code is, they have rights to have their kit tested,” says Ilse Knecht, director of policy and advocacy at the foundation. But why aren't they being tested in the first place? “One of the biggest factors is rape is not prioritized as the violent crime that it is, Knecht says. “So, unless somebody asks for that kit to be sent forward, such as a detective or prosecutor, it could sit there forever.” Knecht says factors such as money and resources also play a role. Reports show many of the cases are being suspended instead of closed, but that’s changing, slowly. “Just had a big win in New York state,” says Knecht. “Gov. Cuomo just signed a bill, the Sexual Assault Survivors’ Bill of Rights, that allows survivors, among many other things, to know the status of their rape kit.” During the 2017 legislative session, the Joyful Heart Foundation helped pass 17 bills in 15 states to push rape kit backlog testing. It was a major step toward justice, and Knecht says they’re not done fighting.“It's really important that every rape kit that has been sitting on the shelf for years is taken off the shelf and know that every single kit that is collected is tested in a timely manner,” she says. 1500
