From California to South Carolina, a former Marine is riding is motorcycle across the country to raise money for Save the Brave.Major Scott Huesing is riding to honor his friend Dave White, a former Navy Veteran, who recently passed away from alcohol poisoning.When asked to give the eulogy at his friends funeral, Huesing want to do something more along the way. He's riding 4,600 miles round trip to raise money for Save the Brave, a nonprofit that's combating suicide and Post traumatic stress disorder among veterans and first responders."This pandemic has created a lot of fear for people and it’s isolated people," Huesing said. For veterans and people dealing with post traumatic stress, isolation is probably the worse thing for them. I think it’s probably the jump off point to where they reach hopelessness."According to a United States Department of Veterans Affairs Report, suicides are on the rise. In 2017, more than 45,000 Americans died from suicide and 6,130 of them were U.S. Veterans."I think right now people want to feel united around something and to be able to hop on my Harley and drive 4,600 miles round trip, I think that gives people a reason to come out and support," Huesing said.One of his first stops was in Tucson, but he's been riding ever since. On the third day of the second test excavations, archaeologists said they identified a mass grave with outlines of at least ten coffins during the graves investigation.During a press conference on Wednesday, researchers said they do not feel they are at the stage of needing to expose those remains, as they do not want to do any harm.Researchers encountered the first set of human remains on day two of the second test excavation in the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Graves Investigation.PHOTO GALLERY: Researchers work on second test excavation to recover possible mass graves from 1921 Tulsa Race MassacreArchaeologists said, during a press conference on Oct. 20, they do not know if the remains are from 1921 at this time. They said they are hopeful to find additional remains. Researchers added that this big discovery gives them a better understanding of where to find more remains.Mayor G.T. Bynum said he is grateful for the experts who located the remains. I am very grateful to have the foremost experts in the country working to locate the remains of victims from the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. Today, our research team found an unmarked grave in an area previously identified through geophysical survey work. The next step will be to identify if the remains are associated with the Tulsa Race Massacre. This will be done through forensic analysis of the remains, and by comparing them with funeral home and death certificate records. We will continue to take this investigation one step at a time, wherever it may lead. Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum Researchers said they found the remains three feet below the surface on the west side of Oaklawn Cemetery.The discovery includes a wood coffin held together with metal nails, a temporary marker used to identify where a gravestone is usually placed and human remains of one person.State Archaeologist Kary Stackelbeck said signs of trauma will help experts determine if these remains were from the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre.Researchers said the investigation is expected to last one week, but could extend into a second week, depending on the findings.READ MORE: Second test excavation in 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Graves Investigation to begin Oct. 19The archaeologists are focusing on two areas in Oaklawn Cemetery this time around.The first site is adjacent to two 1921 Race Massacre headstones in the historical African American section of Potters field; the second is a new dig site located on the Southwest section of the cemetery.In 2018, Mayor Bynum announced the City of Tulsa would re-examine potential graves from the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. That investigation began in 2020 with crews conducting their search along the western edge of the cemetery. Archaeologists conducted extensive test excavations and concluded with no evidence of human remains.However, the search could continue beyond Oaklawn Cemetery. Researchers said several areas are still candidates for possible mass grave sites related to the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. In speaking with some of you, it breaks my heart to know the pain I have caused. In an attempt to talk about respect, unity, and solidarity centered around the American flag and the national anthem, I made comments that were insensitive and completely missed the mark on the issues we are facing right now as a country. They lacked awareness and any type of compassion or empathy. Instead, those words have become divisive and hurtful and have misled people into believing that somehow I am an enemy. This could not be further from the truth, and is not an accurate reflection of my heart or my character. This is where I stand: I stand with the black community in the fight against systemic racial injustice and police brutality and support the creation of real policy change that will make a difference. I condemn the years of oppression that have taken place throughout our black communities and still exists today. I acknowledge that we as Americans, including myself, have not done enough to fight for that equality or to truly understand the struggles and plight of the black community. I recognize that I am part of the solution and can be a leader for the black community in this movement. I will never know what it’s like to be a black man or raise black children in America but I will work every day to put myself in those shoes and fight for what is right. I have ALWAYS been an ally, never an enemy. I am sick about the way my comments were perceived yesterday, but I take full responsibility and accountability. Bill Chavez has always been fascinated with big trucks. He comes from a long line of truckers, which is one of the reasons he’s devoted his life for 39 years to the profession. To most people, Chavez’s truck looks like any traditional semi. However, it’s not ordinary, because with a push of a button, it can drive itself. “What we’re trying to do is create the world’s safest self-driving trucks,” says Chuck Price, the chief product officer of TuSimple, the company behind the self-driving semis. TuSimple is currently operating 15 self-driving semis, and Price says by June, they'll have three times that number. “This is actually a laser radar unit; we call it lidar, built into the mirror. This gives us a close-in view,” Price describes. “Then, we have cameras along the top of the vehicle that show us…much further away.” TuSimple’s trucks are already in the southwest part of the country, on interstates across the region. "Our systems see farther, track more objects and respond faster than a human can operate," Price says. Right now, a human must be in the trucks at all times as back-up protocol, but the company says a fully self-driving semi could happen by 2020. The company says when that day comes, it will alleviate one of the industry's biggest problems.Tony Bradley, with the Arizona Trucking Association, says nationwide they're currently 50,000 drivers short. "This is the worst shortage we've seen in the history of trucking,” Bradley stresses. Bradley says 15 years from now, the shortage could be as high as 200,000, thanks to the large number of drivers approaching retirement age. "It's a job that is frankly, not very glamorous," Bradley says. However, the job continues to be appealing to Chavez. "It's just very enjoyable to be out there on the road and being your own boss," Chavez says. He knows that a time may come where drivers might be replaced by this technology. However, he's OK with that idea and says roads will be safer for everyone. "This is a system that's gonna help,” he says. “Either way, it’s helping," Chavez says.However, he says that day is much further down the road. 2133
