LeBron James responded to the Fox News host who told him to "shut up and dribble" after the Cavs star discussed the current political climate while talking specifically about President Trump in an episode of "Uninterrupted." James had all eyes on him during the NBA's All-Star weekend in Los Angeles when he addressed Fox News Host Laura Ingraham's commentary."I get to sit up here and talk about social injustice, equality and why a woman on a certain network decided to tell me to 'shut up and dribble,'" James said. "So, thank you, whatever her name is. I don't even know her name."RELATED: 'I am more than an athlete': LeBron James responds to Fox News host on InstagramOn Sunday, Ingraham defended her on-air comments about James, saying people who described her comments as racists took them wrong, according to ABC News."In 2003, I wrote a New York Times bestseller called 'Shut Up & Sing,' in which I criticized celebrities like the Dixie Chicks & Barbra Streisand who were trashing then-President George W. Bush. I have used a variation of that title for more than 15 years to respond to performers who sound off on politics. I’ve told Robert DeNiro to 'Shut Up & Act,' Jimmy Kimmel to 'Shut Up & Make Us Laugh,' and just this week told the San Antonio Spurs’ Gregg Popovich to 'Shut up & Coach,'' she said in a statement to Scripps station WEWS in Cleveland.RELATED: LeBron James and Kevin Durant get candid during ride-along through Akron"If pro athletes and entertainers want to freelance as political pundits, then they should not be surprised when they’re called out for insulting politicians. There was no racial intent in my remarks - false, defamatory charges of racism are a transparent attempt to immunize entertainment and sports elites from scrutiny and criticism. Additionally, we stated on my show that these comments came from an ESPN podcast, which was not the case - the content was unaffiliated with ESPN."Over the weekend James also said, "We will definitely not shut up and dribble. I will definitely not do that." 2131

Like everything else this year, things have be unpredictable and unprecedented for charities who have had to change the way they structure their holiday fundraising. The need is greater than ever and organizations have had to get creative.Even the Salvation Army bell will be different this year.“There are fewer retail locations, people aren’t carrying as much cash as they have in the past, many are now unemployed,” says commissioner Kenneth Hodder, the national commander of the Salvation Army. The organization has been serving those in need since 1865. Now grown to 131 countries and 7,600 centers, almost every ZIP code has a branch. The need this year, the commissioner says, is like a tsunami.“In a typical year, the Salvation Army will serve about 52 million meals, for example. So far this year, we’re well over 110 million meals. The numbers have shot up astronomically,” Hodder said. The organization has provided 1.5 million more nights of shelter in addition to 900,000 instances of emotional and spiritual support.“As eviction moratoriums start to expire, as corporate capabilities to support people with furloughs or reduced hours decline, we’re anticipating a 155 % increase in the number of people coming to the Salvation Army for Christmas assistance,” Hodder said. And, with the coronavirus pandemic, the Salvation Army decided to get creative. Launching "Kettle Pay,” which is what you'd think, you can pay at the kettle without touching anything.“They’ll be able to bump their phone on the sign and electronically, the opportunity to give will come up on their phone,” Hodder said. This year, the commissioner says, they've further refined the technology so that your digital gift at a particular location will benefit people in that same area.Make-A-Wish America has also launched a digital campaign for the holidays.“We’re really excited to introduce our new holiday fundraising campaign called ‘Families for Wishes,’” says Christie Madsen, senior manager of national fundraising campaigns for Make-A-Wish America. She says it's been an unpredictable year. Families for Wishes is simple to set up and simple to donate.“In its purest form, Families for Wish is about families helping families, any family helping bring joy back into the lives of Wish families,” Madsen said. The funds raised will also benefit local families who are supporting a child with a critical illness.“We know holidays are going to look so different this year, we know people are looking for ways to stay connected even if they can’t be together this year and are looking for new traditions and we think Families for Wishes could be a part of that along the family’s timeline and when it makes sense for them,” Madsen said. That new tradition, she says, is as easy as going to its website, creating a page, adding a family picture and launching your campaign.“I bet people will be surprised to find how easy it is to collect donations this time of year. People are looking for new ways to replace traditional gifts and this could be part of that solution," Madsen said. And while it seems like a few clicks on a website, or a few coins in a red kettle, wishes and hope are forever and charities are hoping you'll help this holiday season. 3238

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. (KABC) -- A California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer was killed after being hit by a vehicle on the 15 Freeway in Lake Elsinore Saturday. The officer was hit by a sedan near Nichols Road at about 4:30 p.m. and airlifted to a hospital, prompting a closure of the southbound lanes. The officer killed was identified by CHP in a social media post as Sgt. Steve Licon. "Our hearts are heavy after the immeasurable loss of a friend, father, husband, and hero," the social media post said. The southbound lanes of the freeway were fully closed from Indian Truck Trail to Nichols Road due to a police investigation, Caltrans said. One alternative route is the 91 east to the 215 south, connecting back with I-15 in Murrieta.Injuries sustained by the driver in the sedan were not immediately known. 824

LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - Scientists are using an autonomous underwater vehicle to help get purified wastewater to your faucets.  The remote-controlled sub operated by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography helps measure how the purified water mixes with the Lake Jennings reservoir water. It’s one of the state-required steps water officials need to take before purified wastewater from the Padre Dam Water District’s Advanced Water Purification System is introduced to homes through Helix Water District’s Lake Jennings and water treatment facility.“There’s that factor that it’s coming from a waste facility originally.  So, what happens if there’s some sort of failure that didn’t get caught? Well, now there’s a buffer. There’s a buffer. It will sit in the reservoir,” said Helix’s Director of Water Quality Brian Olney. If all goes as planned, Padre Dam will need to expand its Advanced Water Purification System and build a pipeline to deliver that water to Lake Jennings.  Olney said that could happen by 2023. 1045

LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Church-goers in La Mesa attended a service Sunday even as a truck that crashed into the building Wednesday remained wedged in the structure. The large tree-trimming truck crashed into the side of the San Diego Taiwanese Presbyterian Church Wednesday. According to a witness, the crew in charge of the truck was working on the 4400 block of Harbison Avenue around 1:30 p.m. when the vehicle began rolling down a hill. RELATED: Tree trimming truck crashes into La Mesa churchVideo shows the truck start to roll before someone in a bright orange shirt begins to chase the vehicle, but is too late. Fortunately, no one was inside the building at the time of the crash, though the church says several children and volunteers were close by at the time, calling it a miracle that no one was hit. "We all watched helplessly as there was nothing we could do," Rob Engquist, a witness, said. "Turns out they had gone out to reposition it, moved their wheel chalk out of the way, don't know if the parking break was set or what happened, but the truck was going down the road on its own."A witness also told 10News that the truck was originally headed for a home next to the church but hit a curb and careened toward the church instead. 1260
