PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — A Central Florida man is on a mission to do something nobody else has ever done: become the first person with Down Syndrome to complete a full Ironman.Chris Nikic has become an inspiration to people around the world and it started with a simple mission.Nik Nikic encouraged his son to push himself 1% more each day.“We came up with this concept of just get a little better today than yesterday,” Nik explained.Now, 21-year-old Chris is about to do something incredible. On November 7, he’ll swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles and run a full 26.2 mile marathon in Panama City Beach.“I want to inspire others so that they can be like me and so that one day they can do it too,” Chris said with a smile.If he completes the race within 17 hours, Chris will be the first person with Down Syndrome to ever finish an Ironman.He also has a message for the other competitors: “You better watch out, because I’m going to beat you!”“Really, you’re going to beat all of them?” his dad asked.“Yeah!” Chris answered enthusiastically.Chris has spent several months swimming off the coast of Pinellas County as he trains with coach Dan Grieb for the big race and gets used to the choppy Gulf of Mexico waters.“I’ve learned that you can teach anybody anything if you’re willing to love them through their disability or love them through their struggle,” Grieb added.Chris has been documenting his journey on social media. Thousands of people all around the world have sent him messages of support, including many parents of children with Down Syndrome who say Chris is motivating their kids to also strive for excellence.“They say I’m their hero,” Chris added.Chris is already brainstorming his next target: Competing in the 2022 Special Olympics and finding a special someone to share all these accomplishments with.“I want to get married. Police in North Haven, Connecticut have arrested a man they said implied he was going to hand out candy filled with poison to trick-or-treaters.Detectives received an anonymous tip about alarming statements made by 57-year-old Ronald Przybylo.Upon their investigation, police said they found disturbing posts and videos that led them to believe the man was possibly dangerous.Police said Przybylo allegedly posted comments implying that he planned to provide candy filled with rat poison to trick-or-treaters.Przybylo also reportedly referenced several mass killings from around the country and “dubbed himself the Halloween Lunatic,” police said.When officers responded to his home, they found floors and furniture to be completely covered with animal urine and feces.The North Haven Animal Control and the Quinnipiac Valley Health Department responded and removed three dogs, three cats, and an Amazon African Bird.Ronald Przybylo was arrested and charged with second-degree breach of peace, seven counts of animal cruelty, and was held on a ,000 bond.Maryellen Przybylo was also arrested and charged with seven counts of animal cruelty and was released on a ,500 bond.She’s expected to appear in court on Nov. 9. 1233

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — A handful of parents are fuming over a sex ed course being taught in their children’s school and the religious group that's teaching it.Mona Mangat, the mom of an 8th-grader at Thurgood Marshall Middle School in Pinellas County, Florida, said she and other parents are “angry about this, upset about this and trying to figure out how this is possible.”Mangat knew one thing for sure: Her daughter would opt out of a sex ed course being taught Thursday by the Christian faith-based group More2Life.“It’s shocking when you find out that faith-based groups are providing this information in schools. I had no idea. I thought that was not allowed in the United States, but I guess I was wrong," she explained.Mangat said she worries the curriculum is biased especially since the group is linked to a pro-life crisis pregnancy center in Largo called New Life Solutions. The More2Life group focuses on abstinence in their presentation to schools.In one presentation they told students, “Sex is like fire. It's safe in its proper context like a committed marriage, just like it's safe in a fireplace.”In another, while speaking about the high rate of STDs, a leader told students, "Have you ever played duck, duck, goose? Now it's like duck, duck, chlamydia." Scripps station WFTS in Tampa took parents' concerns straight to Jason Dorr, the director of More2Life, who said their program does not discuss religion."Our message is completely a health message,” Dorr explained.Dorr added, in line with Florida rules, they encourage abstaining from sex before marriage. The organization has spent 19 years talking to students about the consequences of STDs and teen pregnancy. “We always make this clear: We are not here to tell you what to do. This is an option for your life and we want to present that to you so you can make your own choices," Dorr added. “We are teaching them to have a healthy life and reach their goals without the consequences that can affect their future, so it's adding to what they're already learning at home.”Dorr also said 95 percent of teachers give them high ratings and highly recommend their program to other classrooms.Mangat is fighting to get the program out of schools and swapped out for one that focuses purely on facts.“The choice to have sex is intensely personal. You have to have complete information to make that decision," Mangat added.The Pinellas County School district said students are able to opt out of the presentations. PHOENIX, AZ — An Arizona family is searching for a U.S. Marine who left for Camp Pendleton on Monday but never arrived at the base.Lance Cpl. Job Wallace, 20, was last seen leaving a friend's house in Surprise, Arizona, between 8:30 and 9 p.m. Monday, his mother, Stacy Wallace, said. He loves the Marines, was recently promoted and was excited to get back to Pendleton after a three-day leave that took him home to the suburbs west of Phoenix and a camping trip. "He got into several colleges and missed scholarship opportunities just so that he could be a Marine, because he felt it was his duty to serve his country," Wallace said. Wallace said law enforcement officials told her that her son's phone was last pinged Monday night in Arizona. But a Border Patrol camera spotted his truck the next morning traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 near Fort Hancock, Texas, southeast of El Paso. A Surprise police spokesman says officers took a report and have turned the matter over to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. "NCIS and our partners are working diligently to locate Lance Cpl. Wallace and bring him home safely," Kurt Thomas, special agent in charge of the NCIS Marine Corps West Field Office, said in a statement. OTAY MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - Eight border wall prototypes constructed in South San Diego County are in the process of being dismantled Wednesday, according to Customs and Border Protection officials. "At this point, we have learned a lot from them, but we don't necessarily have a purpose or use for them anymore, and we will be bringing them down," a CBP official told CNN. RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: Candidate describes border wall prototype “Those are not things that the [congressional] language necessarily precludes and they're items that we have been able to add to our tool kit," added the official. The prototypes, which stand 30 feet tall, are in the path of the secondary border fence project, a Border Patrol source told 10News. The Department of Homeland Security hired companies to build the prototypes, which were finished in October 2017. Over two months, Customs and Border Protection officials tested the walls using power tools, hand tools, and other methods. The CBP evaluated the prototypes to determine if anyone could get through by climbing or digging.
