A growing number of members of Congress are fearing for their own safety and they are being threatened at an alarming rate.After nearly being assassinated while at a baseball practice last year with other Republicans, Congressman Steve Scalise found himself the target of another threat this month. Authorities arrested a man, after he left threatening voicemails for Scalise. Investigators said they found 200 rounds of ammunition and books on homemade explosives at the man’s home, along with receipts for an assault rifle and a handgun, according to court records.“Hopefully he gets a serious sentence, because you can’t allow this kind of threats and violence against people based on their political views,” Scalise said during an interview on Fox News.Arizona Congressman David Schweikert has served in Congress since 2010. He said he and his family are dealing with a growing number of threats.“We had more death threats last year in my office--even one towards my little girl--than we ever had in all of the other years combined,” Schweikert said during an interview on “Plaidcast,” a podcast hosted by Rep. Sean Duffy.In June, California congresswoman Maxine Waters canceled events in Alabama and Texas, after she said she received a “very serious death threat.”According to the House Sergeant of Arms Office, the number of threats against members of Congress are skyrocketing. So far this year, the office said there have been more than 1,600 threats against members of the House alone. Last year, there were nearly 2,000 reported incidents and 902 in 2016.For the past two years, the committee that oversees security for House members, allocated ,000 for security to each of the 435 members of the House of Representatives. A heartbreaking social media post by the brother of James Eric Davis Jr., the man who police say shot his parents to death inside of his Central Michigan University dorm room Friday is asking for compassion and support for his younger brother.“To the media and opinionated people... Please don’t make a villain of my brother... that is NOT who he is... and despite the circumstances, he also lost a mother and father... And I LOVE him. Consider that!,” wrote Russell Matthew Davis on his Facebook page.“Never thought I’d have to post this type of post... but unfortunately the news is true. My mom and dad both rest from their life of labor and stress in a very tragic event,” he wrote.Davis Jr. has been charged with two counts of murder and a weapons charge in the shootings of his father, Eric Davis Sr., and mother, Diva Davis.Davis Jr.’s parents had come to the university Friday to pick up their son from the hospital and take him back to their hometown in Illinois for Spring Break.  Their son had acted so strangely the night before, that University police suspected he was on drugs and admitted him to a hospital in Mt. Pleasant.The shooting occurred on the 4th floor of Davis. Jr.’s dorm room in Campbell Hall as his parents were packing up his belongings. A chaotic scene unfolded as a massive caravan of Honduran migrants reached the Guatemala-Mexico border Friday.What appeared to be tear gas was fired as the crowd pushed towards Mexican police at the border, CNN's Bill Weir reported from the scene."There are children in this crowd. ... This is utter chaos at the moment. You've got people with Honduran flags climbing the fences. Now we're being pushed back," Weir said.Mexican officials had said people seeking asylum would be processed at the border. A California teacher was arrested Wednesday after a video posted to Reddit shows her cutting students' hair while singing the "Star-Spangled Banner."Margaret Gieszinger, 52, was arrested and changed with abandonment and neglect of children.According to NBC News, Gieszinger is a teacher at University Preparatory High School in Visalia, California. The video shows Gieszinger in a classroom, cutting chunks of hair from a male students' head and throwing it behind her as she sings the national anthem.After cutting the boys' hair, she threatens to cut other students' hair.The College of the Sequoias Chief of Police confirmed to NBC News that the video was the reason for the arrest.Gieszinger is currently being held in the Bob Wiley Detention Center in Tulare County, California on 0,000 bond. A Georgia school decided on Thursday to reverse its decision it made earlier in the week to end the practice of students participating in the Pledge of Allegiance during all-school assemblies, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. Earlier in the week, Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School said that the pledge would no longer be recited in such assemblies after some parents and students expressed concerns. The school said that it wasn't outright banning the Pledge of Allegiance from being recited during school hours, but moving the pledge to the school's classrooms. “Over the past couple of years it has become increasingly obvious that more and more of our community were choosing to not stand and/or recite the pledge," principal Lara Zelski said, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "There are many emotions around this and we want everyone in our school family to start their day in a positive manner. After all, that is the whole purpose of our morning meeting.” By late Thursday, backlash from the public and public officials forced the school to reverse its decision. Georgia' Department of Education requires schools to make time for the Pledge of Allegiance, but students are not required to stand or recite it. “Students are offered the opportunity to participate in the Pledge of Allegiance," county superintendent Morcease J. Beasley told the Constitution-Journal. "If they choose to participate or not is their individual and constitutional right and the reason the flag of the United States of America exists. Anything that removes their right to choose to participate as their conscience dictates, in my opinion, is un-American and immoral.”  1740
