Some Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students say going to school in the morning now feels more like going to an airport, or even worse, going into a prison.FULL COVERAGE: Parkland school shooting“I’m all for school safety implementations, but I don’t like the feeling of a prison," said Jack Macleod, a junior. "It’s supposed to be a place of education and I can’t really get back into that sense of academia and creativity with all that’s going.”On their first day back from spring break, Broward County School District enacted new security measures at the high school in an effort to keep students safer.Jack and his classmates weaved through rows of barricades to get into school. Jack tweeted a video of the experience.“It’s seriously like the TSA," he said in the video.Jack's peers also took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the security measures.“Posting stuff like that gives the whole audience of Twitter a big insight into what it’s like now in the day of Marjory Stoneman Douglas," Jack said.Jack said there are no metal detectors at the entrances yet, but he's expecting that to come soon.Some students tweeted asking if pre-check will be available like at the airport and if they need to start taking off their shoes when they get to school.However, the new clear backpacks got most of the heat on social media. “I don’t think that it does anything," Jack said. "I don’t think the issues that have come out of this movement that people are debating and disputing about are backpack related.”Students call the backpacks a violation of privacy. “We earned that right to privacy and we kind of got it confiscated when two knives were taken to school," said Annabel Claprood, a sophomore.Camern Lo put a piece of paper in her new clear backpack saying, ‘This backpack is probably worth more than my life.'Some students say while they understand the intentions are good, these measures are band-aids to cover up the real problems."I don’t think that it does anything," Jack said. "I don’t think the issues that have come out of this movement that people are debating and disputing about are backpack related."Students also have to wear their I.D. badges at all times. They received lanyards Monday to wear them on."They did not check my I.D.," Annabel said. "They did not check anything. I walked in. No questions asked. It was just like it was before nothing’s really changed except now you can see our personal items.”Annabel took her ideas on how to make her school safer straight to the superintendent during a meeting right before spring break."Bring your voice to the people who will listen who are going to do something with your voice," she said.She said she wants to see more modern technology used to secure the school. She says that’s what would make her and her peers feel safer, something she knows adults are trying to do.“Until we see all of us on the same page working together, nothing’s going to happen," she said.“I don’t know what exactly America needs right now, but I do know that we’re all talking about it," Jack said.Florida Highway Patrol troopers are guarding entrances to the school as Governor Rick Scott promised nearly two weeks ago. Broward County Sheriff’s Office has a heavy presence outside the school as well. 3282

Six days after Hurricane Michael roared ashore, wreaking havoc on the Florida Panhandle, a bit of good news has emerged in hard-hit Mexico Beach.On Monday, authorities announced both that residents can begin returning home this week and that the estimate for the number of people unaccounted for has been lowered from at least 30 to three.Mexico Beach took the hardest punch from Michael when the storm made landfall six days ago.Besides the widespread destruction, town police say two people were killed there, including one body found Monday.After standing by for days as authorities worked to secure the area and complete search and rescue, Mexico Beach residents learned Monday that they can return home on Wednesday.About 280 of the town's 1,200 residents had said they planned to ride out the storm, but the town's mayor said many fled at the last minute when Michael quickly gained strength.Authorities initially said they could not account for 30 to 35 people but police Monday lowered that number to three missing. 1031

SPRINGDALE, Utah — A woman who was missing for nearly two weeks has been found safe in Zion National Park.Authorities had been searching for 38-year-old Holly Suzanne Courtier after she didn't show up for her scheduled pickup in the park by a private shuttle on Oct. 6.She was found Sunday by search and rescue crews after rangers received a "credible tip" that a visitor had seen her in the park, the National Parks Service said. She has since been reunited with her family.“We are overjoyed that she was found safely today," Courtier's family said in a statement. "We would like to thank the rangers and search teams who relentlessly looked for her day and night and never gave up hope. We are also so grateful to the countless volunteers who were generous with their time, resources and support. This wouldn’t have been possible without the network of people who came together.”Courtier's daughter told CNN that her mother injured her head while hiking and became disoriented. "She injured her head on a tree," Chambers told CNN. "She was very disoriented as a result and thankfully ended up near a water source -- a river bed. Spencer Davis, bandleader of the self-titled group that reeled off such hits as "Gimme Some Lovin'" and "I'm a Man," has died at the age of 81.Davis died Monday while being treated for pneumonia in a hospital, Rolling Stone reported.Steve Winwood, who served as lead singer of the Spencer Davis Group, called Davis "an early pioneer of the British folk scene" in a statement released Tuesday and said Davis was "like a big brother" to him."He was definitely a man with a vision and one of the pioneers of the British invasion of America in the sixties," Winwood said.Founded in Birmingham, England, in 1963, Davis teamed with Winwood, his bass-playing brother, Muff Winwood, and drummer Pete York to form the quartet.The band's first No. 1 single, "Keep On Running," was released in 1965.In the next two years, the Spencer Davis Group followed with another pair of hits -- "Gimme Some Lovin'" and "I'm a Man," both of which cracked the top 10 on the U.S. charts."Gimme Some Lovin'" has been featured in several popular movies, including "The Big Chill," "Days of Thunder" and "Striptease."In recent years, the band is arguably known for its trick trivia question, "Who was the lead singer of the Spencer Davis Group?"Winwood eventually left the band to form Traffic in 1967, but the Spencer Davis Group carried on without him, though with far less success.
