ANAHEIM (CNS) - Thousands of Disneyland enthusiasts lined up early Friday to experience the theme park's newest Star Wars Land ride.Bobby Navarro of Garden Grove said he got up at 4 a.m. with his friends and got into the park by 5:30 a.m.Navarro experienced Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance when it debuted at Disney World on Dec. 5, so he had some practice in using the company's application to sign up for a pass to the attraction. Navarro said it was key to get everyone in the group connected on the app and requesting a pass simultaneously, but that also meant he had to de-select others who were not at the park with his group.RIDE REVIEW & VIDEO: 'Rise of the Resistance' fulfills missing 'Star Wars' feel at Galaxy's Edge"The queue for the digital app started at 6 o'clock... and we still had to wait hours before the app opened," Navarro said. "And then, it was whoever is able to push the button fastest."Navarro and his group were assigned to boarding group 84, and he was advised the park may only be able to handle 82 boarding groups on Friday, but he was hopeful his group will get a chance to see the Anaheim version of the ride."The first day in Florida, they got up to boarding group 125," Navarro said."We're close to group 50 now," he said about 1 p.m.Navarro said even the wait in line for the ride in Florida helped guests feel immersed in the experience. The attraction included a hologram explaining the "context and storyline," he said.RELATED: California Adventure's 'Avengers Campus' set for summer 2020 openingCast members help guide guests through the line until the fun begins with an abduction and imprisonment by stormtroopers, he said. One of the more impressive attractions is a glass panel that makes participants feel as if they are looking into outer space, he said.As the "prisoners" are being told they will be "eliminated," resistance fighters break through with lightsabers to help lead an escape, Navarro said."They tell you, `Hurry up, get out,"' Navarro said.RELATED: Disneyland tickets are on sale for as low as right nowThe guests make their escape on a pod, he said."The mag-lev system is what really makes the ride," he said of the battleship in the attraction. "This really feels like a battleship.""They really did a great job of transporting you to a different place," he said. The ride takes about 20 minutes, he said.Anaheim police Sgt. Shane Carringer said the city has not experienced any issues with traffic in the area despite also hosting the National Association of Music Merchants convention."I haven't heard of any problems," he said. "These large events, although extraordinary for Anaheim, are definitely not out of our comfort zone to handle these pretty regularly. And Disney has ingress and egress down to a science."Carringer said he got to experience the new attraction last night."It was cool," he said. "My wife enjoyed it too." 2912

An additional 13 sets of human remains were discovered Monday in Northern California, bringing the death toll from the Camp Fire to 42, making it the deadliest wildfire in the state's history, the sheriff of Butte County said. The increased death toll comes as first responders continue battling blazes on both ends of the state, bringing the statewide toll to 44.They are fighting fierce winds to contain the Woolsey Fire and save lives and homes in populous Southern California. Meanwhile, harrowing stories of nightmarish escapes from burning homes and cars are trickling out of the rural northern part of the state, where firefighters made progress Monday in containing the Camp Fire, which also is the most destructive fire in state history. 753

Anyone who plans to travel internationally should get tested for COVID-19 before and after their trip, according to new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations. In addition, the CDC says anyone returning from international travel should isolate for at least seven days — even if they test negative for COVID-19 upon their return.Planning aheadIn the new guidance published to its website, the CDC recommends travelers plan ahead several weeks before travel. The CDC says to avoid high-risk activities like large social gatherings (parties, weddings, funerals, sporting events), indoor recreation (bars, restaurants, fitness centers) and taking public transportation for at least two weeks. As the travel date approaches, the CDC recommends receiving a test between one and three days before boarding an international flight — but also to make sure test results are available before the flight departs. If the test results aren't back in time, the CDC recommends delaying travel. The CDC stresses that anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 should not travel — anyone who tests positive should immediately isolate and follow public health recommendations. The CDC also says that anyone who tests negative should still wear a mask, maintain 6 feet of social distance and wash hands frequently while traveling."A negative test does not mean that you were not exposed or that you will not develop COVID-19," the CDC says on its website. Finally, travelers should carry a copy of their test results with them — officials in other countries may ask to see them.Upon ReturnUpon return to the U.S., travelers should get another COVID-19 test within three to five days upon return. Even if that test comes back negative, the CDC urges a full week of self-isolation."You may have been exposed to COVID-19 on your travels. You may feel well and not have any symptoms, but you can be contagious without symptoms and spread the virus to others. You and your travel companions (including children) pose a risk to your family, friends, and community for 14 days after you were exposed to the virus," the CDC writes on its website.Anyone who chooses not to get tested upon their return to the U.S. should stay home for 14 days.Places where it's safe to travelThe CDC's website also includes risk assessment maps to help travelers determine where COVID-19 is spreading. As of Wednesday morning, nearly every country around the world was listed as a Level 4 risk — the highest level listed by the CDC.Click here to see the CDC's risk assessment map. 2559

Army Secretary Ryan D. McCarthy said Tuesday that he was suspending 14 leaders at Fort Hood after an internal investigation revealed "major flaws" in leadership at the Texas base.On Tuesday, McCarthy blamed leadership for allowing a culture that invited sexual assault against female soldiers to fester, saying the culture was "the direct result of leadership failures."McCarthy also said the Army would institute policy changes that he hopes to be in place by March 2021, adding that the internal investigation will "without a doubt will change the culture of the Army."Investigations into the alleged toxic leadership culture at Fort Hood began earlier this year with the disappearance of then-Pfc. Vanessa Guillen. She was last seen on the base on April 22 and was not seen until her remains were found at a nearby river in July.Hours after Guillen's remains were found, a suspect wanted in connection with her death died by suicide as police officers approached his car during a traffic stop. That soldier's estranged wife was later arrested in connection with Guillen's death.Guillen's family has maintained that prior to her death, she had been sexually assaulted by another soldier at the base. They also claim that she had been afraid to report the assault to her superior officers for fear of retribution.Weeks after her death, the Army said that while an investigation remained open, they had not found evidence that Guillen had been sexually assaulted.McCarthy did not make any specific statements regarding Guillen's case and the current status into the investigation into the assault allegations. However, he did say that Guillen's murder "shocked our conscience."Guillen's family held a press conference at the Fort on Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.Speaking alongside Guillen's family, Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said it is important for those aware of assaults to come forward."When a person is a victim, there no more powerful thing than love," Acevedo said. "I want to tell the community to come forward." Guillen's case wasn't the only sign of trouble at Fort Hood. Between January and late October, the Intercept reports that there were 28 deaths on the base, including five homicides and eight suicides. In October, The Intercept published a report that detailed fears of seven noncommissioned officers who said the culture at the base had grown so toxic that they feared for the safety of their soldiers. The report detailed rampant misconduct, including drug use, sexual assault and warning signs of suicide that were ignored by commanding officers.CNN reports that Fort Hood is home to 37,000 service members and has a total population of more than 60,000. 2682
