BRASILIA, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- At the invitation of Brazilian Defense Minister Nelson Jobim, Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie arrived on Tuesday in the Brazilian Air Base to begin a goodwill visit to the South American country.In a written speech released upon his arrival, Liang, also Chinese state councilor, offered his sincere greetings and good wishes to the Brazilian people and armed forces on behalf of the Chinese Ministry of National Defense and the Chinese People's Liberation Army.Liang said the aim of his visit is to strengthen mutual understanding between the two armies, deepen friendship, promote cooperation, and explore more areas for cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries.Liang said that China is keen to develop bilateral relations of the armies, to deepen military cooperation with Brazilian side, to promote relations between the two countries, and devote their due contributions to safeguarding international and regional stability and safety.During his stay here, Liang will also meet his Brazilian counterpart Nelson Jobim and other high-ranking officials in Brazil. PARIS, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and his French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy on Thursday vowed to boost the comprehensive strategic partnership between their countries. In talks with Sarkozy, Hu said the China-France relationship has been characterized by its strategic and global nature and its ability to move with the times since diplomatic ties were forged 46 years ago.Political dialogue has increasingly deepened and political mutual trust strengthened, said Hu.Bilateral trade is expected to exceed 40 billion U.S. dollars this year, and mutual investment has continuously increased, he said.The two countries have carried out extensive exchanges and cooperation in education, science and technology, and culture, and have kept close communication and coordination on major international issues, he added.Sarkozy said it was a great honor to receive Hu in his second state visit to France.Sarkozy congratulated China on the successful holding of the World Expo in Shanghai, saying the expo was another major international event hosted by China after the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

At the outset, I wish to extend, on behalf of the Chinese government and people, warm welcome and sincere thanks to all distinguished guests attending the China National Pavilion Day events.Expo 2010 Shanghai is the first such global event hosted by a developing country in the history of the world expo. In the past five months, participants from 246 countries and international organizations have gathered by the Huangpu River to attend the Expo. The Expo site has hosted over 100 foreign leaders and nearly 60 million Chinese and foreign visitors.
