SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego man is helping local veterans overcome PTSD one swing of a golf club at a time.Vietnam veteran Tony Perez founded Operation Game On, a golf program that helps veteran learn the game of golf and socialize.And the program works. Many veterans who have joined say the program has helped them overcome many of the struggles they face with PTSD.10News honors Tony for his work with San Diego veterans. 440

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Across San Diego County, cities will soon raise and illuminate that all-important sign of Christmas.Tree lighting ceremonies kick off this month, with several planned for residents no matter where in the county they live. Many of this year's tree lighting events will celebrate with holiday treats, shopping, rides and games, and, of course, appearances by Santa.Check out where you can catch a tree lighting ceremony in San Diego this season:Otay Ranch Town Center Tree Lighting (Nov. 19): The South Bay will usher in the holidays at Otay Ranch Town Center, where their Christmas tree will light up at 7 p.m. Festivities, crafts, and delicious treats will be available starting at 5 p.m. and Santa will pay everyone a visit at the shops.Santee Holiday Tree Lighting (Nov. 22): Santee starts the holiday season with crafts and games, carriage rides, photos with Santa, sledding, and more at Santee Trolley Square. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A semi-truck carrying boxes of grapes caught fire as it traveled down Interstate 8 in El Cajon Monday morning.Authorities received reports of a semi-truck on fire on westbound I-8 just near dunbar lane shortly after 12:30 a.m.Firefighters arrived to put the fire out and attempted to save the shipments of grapes, but it was a total lost.California Highway Patrol officials said the truck’s driver escaped unharmed.The cause of the fire is under investigation. 487

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A simple move across the city could bring San Diegans more help when it comes to finding a job.Monday, the San Diego Workforce Partnership relocated from its longtime office in City Heights to a new headquarters in Kearny Mesa. The partnership expects to save 0,000 in rent this year and million over the next fifteen years."That's more staffing, more services for job seekers, and more outreach to employers," said Peter Callstrom, the Workforce Partnership's CEO. "To save money is the big deal because we want to keep costs low and fund programs."San Diego Unified bought the partnership's old office, getting them out of a long term, expensive lease. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A U.S. Marine Corps veteran is spreading the message anyone can do anything they set their mind to.Kionte Storey enlisted with the USMC in 2007. He joined after witnessing the Twin Towers attack in 2001 and wanted to discover himself and push his limits."I did join knowing I was going to go to war." Storey said his second deployment took him to Afghanistan. His team went to investigate a building, ten members went in, leaving him and one other Marine outside."I make two steps in and the IED goes off. It's kinda like a movie or what you would see in video games where everything goes gray, my ears ringing, but it felt like I was hit by a truck."He said he tried to get up but his legs weren't doing what he was asking them to. He lost his right leg in the blast. He propped himself against a wall in the hallway and said he tried to remain calm, focused on the team's safety.Back home, the Semper Fi and America's Fund took care of him, starting with getting a prosthetic leg."Learning how to walk was not the hardest part, it was the easiest part out of my entire experience." Storey said it was the mental game that was most challenging. So he took it head on."I've done more than I think I would have ever done with both my legs, than I've done with one and I've exceeded all my expectations by far." Storey has run marathons, climbed mountains like Kilamanjaro in Tanzania and Vinson Massif in Antartica."It was not only difficult because of the climb itself but but it was a mental break-through that I had that opened a lot of new possibilities of once I got to the summit [of Mt. Vinson]. I was like I can do anything, there is nothing that can stop me at this point." Storey said he hopes his story encourages others facing challenges to keep fighting.The Fund has not left his side, helping Storey buy a house, enroll at Cal State San Marcos, where he's studying Kinesiology, and connect him with Koja, his service dog."He's my best friend and I couldn't see life without him... He's made my life completely worth it."
