BEIJING, March 14 (Xinhua) -- World media spoke highly of Premier Wen Jiabao's remarks Friday at a press conference and policies China has adopted to battle the economic crisis, saying the two just-concluded political sessions delivered "China's confidence." The two sessions are known as the Second Session of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC) and the Second Session of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).     The U.S. Chinese Biz News said in a commentary that China has worked out various measures to boost confidence in a number of fields, noting that the package of measures was unprecedented concerning its covered area, depth and influence. The annual NPC session closed on Friday    "China's confidence" was frequently used by reporters covering the NPC and CPPCC, making it a key phrase of the two sessions, it added.     Zheng Yide, editor-in-chief of the U.S. Qiaobao, said the two political sessions spurred confidence of the world amid the unfolding economic turmoil.     China has pledged an 8-percent economic growth, and considering the important role it plays on the world platform, such commitment uplifts people's confidence not only in China's economy but also in the world economy, Zheng said.     The Paris-based Nouvelles d' Europe, the biggest Chinese newspaper in Europe, published a commentary saying "confidence" had been a key word running through the two political sessions and left a deep impression on the world.     The recurring word offered China as well as other countries an effective prescription for surviving the economic crisis.     Lianhe Zaobao, a leading Chinese-language newspaper in Singapore, said in an editorial that Wen has unequivocally said China is ready to confront even bigger challenges amid the financial crisis and can "roll out a new stimulus package at any time."     That is a promise not only to the Chinese people but to the whole world, the editorial said.     It is remarkable that China delivered such kind of determination and confidence at a time when the United States and Europe are still entrenched in their positions on measures to overhaul the global financial system, the editorial said.     Nanyang Siang Pau of Malaysia said that China has set an 8-percent economic growth target for this year.     The paper quoted Wen as saying that China's fiscal deficit is controllable and the government's debt level is safe.     China will keep its currency, the yuan, stable at a reasonable and balanced level, Wen was cited as saying. "No country in the world has the right to put pressure on the devaluation or appreciation of the Chinese currency."     Malaysia's China Press and Sin Chew Media also covered the conclusions of the two political sessions and Wen's press conference.

MOSCOW, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Top think tanks from Russia and China discussed a wide range of security issues of common concern at a two-day seminar that ended here Sunday.     participants at the seminar exchanged ideas on world economic and political trend, the situation in Central Asia, and prospects for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) under the global security framework.     The seminar, "Russia and China in a new era," was co-chaired by China Institute for International Strategic Studies (CIISS) and Russian Council for Foreign and Defense Policy (CFDP).     Xiong Guangkai, chairman of the CIISS, and Sergei Karaganov, head of the CFDP, attended the meeting.     Participants in the meeting agreed that the current world is ata stage of profound change and major readjustment. The ongoing financial crisis has led to greater instability in global and regional situation. Yet, the world will continue to move towards multi-polarization despite emerging complexities in global situation.     Both sides believed that safeguarding security and stability in Central Asia serves the common strategic interests of China and Russia, and is also a necessity for deepening the two countries' strategic cooperation.     They also agreed the SCO, as a new organization of regional security cooperation, not only accords with fundamental interests of all the SCO members, but also contributes to regional and global peace and security. China and Russia shall strengthen understanding, trust and cooperation to ensure the sound development of the SCO.     As a national, nongovernmental institute on global issues, the CIISS keeps in touch with about 100 institutions from over 50 countries and regions across the world. BEIJING, April 5 (Xinhua) -- China has approved 43 corporate bonds in the first quarter, a sharp rise from the same period last year, in support of the massive construction plan involved in the 4 trillion yuan (584.8 billion U.S. dollars) stimulus package, according to the data released by the depository house for China's major bonds.     The 43 corporate bonds, of which five were issued by the central State-owned enterprises, totaled 66.73 billion yuan in value, according to the China Government Securities Depository Trust and Clearing Co., Ltd.     In contrast, only 11 such bonds were approved by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the approving agency, in the first half of last year.     Experts said more such bonds were allowed in a bid to echo the government's 4 trillion yuan stimulus package, which needed huge sums of money to power the massive infrastructure construction andother new projects.     Of the total 4 trillion yuan investment, 1.18 trillion yuan is supplied by the central government. The rest will be financed by local governments and the private capital.     Considering the huge demand by enterprises, NDRC would expand the corporate bond issuance scale to ensure economic growth, an NDRC official told Shanghai Securities News on Saturday.     He said NDRC was working overtime to access the piled-up applications. Money raised by the bond issuance should not be used to make risky investment including shares, futures and real estate, the official stressed.     Companies involved in the construction of infrastructure, sewage treatment, and energy saving would be given priority to issue debt, according to the official.     Based on the current momentum, the total corporate bond sales would likely to top 300 billion yuan this year, analyst with the China Securities Co., Ltd told the newspaper.     Although the bond sales was less than 70 billion yuan in the first quarter, but local governments and non-listed companies have shown great willingness to lend more. The bond sales is expected to peak in the latter of the year, said the analyst.     Chinese government has been cautious on corporate debt issuance as the country lacks comprehensive legal system for bond market.     Only 236.7 billion yuan of corporate bond were issued last year, compared with 812.5 billion yuan of treasury bond sales.

TOKYO, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Li Changchun, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met late Monday with executives of major Japanese media, urging media of both countries to make due contributions to the advancement of Sino-Japan strategic and mutually beneficial relations.     Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said that both Chinese and Japanese media need to adopt a responsible attitude to report issues concerning bilateral relations and situations of their respective countries in line with the principle of authenticity, objectivity and comprehensiveness in a bid to promote mutual understanding and trust between the two peoples.     The media should also proceed from the general situation of Sino-Japan relations to boost mutually beneficial cooperation in various areas, focusing more on news reports that are beneficial to closer bilateral cooperation and providing more information that is conducive to China-Japan strategic and mutually beneficial relations, he said.     Exchanges and cooperation between the media of the two nations, such as "Beijing-Tokyo Forum" and "China-Japan Media Dialogue", help to establish new channels and forms for frank, in-depth and rational dialogues as well as a platform for the two peoples to deepen their mutual understanding, he said.     Executives of key Japanese media such as public broadcaster NHK,TV Asahi, The Yumiuri Shimbun, Kyodo News Agency said that it is the common aspiration of both peoples as well as their historical responsibility to promote the steady and sustained growth of Japan-China relations.     They also made proposals on advancing exchanges between media of the two countries, expanding bilateral cooperation on economy and trade and improving feelings the two peoples harbor toward each other.     On Tuesday, Li visited the headquarters of The Yumiuri Shimbun and NHK, inquiring in detail about the management and operation of the two Japanese media.     Li arrived here Sunday for an official goodwill visit. Japan is the third leg of his four-nation tour, which has already taken him to Australia and Myanmar. Li is to conclude his visit to Japan Wednesday and leave for the Republic of Korea.

BEIJING, Feb 7 (Xinhua) -- After some parts of the drought-stricken north China embraced the long-awaited rain on Saturday, more rainfall was expected to come on Sunday, said National Meteorological Center (NMC) on Saturday.     Rain or snow is forecast for Sunday and next Monday in parts of the northwest and southwest China. They will also spread to the country's north and central regions, according to the NMC.
