A South Florida mother is hoping a social media blitz will help President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris see her daughter's letter to them.Sydney Carlo, who lives in Cooper City, wrote the letter Saturday after learning that Biden and Harris were the projected winners of the election. America is a great country but you made it a lot better."Her mother, Samantha Carlo, said her daughter showed that dedication by keeping up with the presidential election. "Sydney has been following the election, so every morning since Tuesday, Nov. 3, the first thing she's done is walk into my room and say, 'Do we know who won yet?'" Carlo told WPTV.Sydney said she wanted to share her feelings. "I just let my heart out and I did what I wanted to say to him, that he's doing a great job and that he's a great person," she said.Her mother shared the letter on her Instagram page, tagging Biden and Harris. Once a week, Karelia Lanuza comes by Viola Zilio's apartment to help her with whatever she might need, whether it’s finishing a puzzle, helping with chores or reminding her to take her medications. The two will often run errands or go for walks. Often times, they’ll even stop at Zilio’s favorite café to get the traditional Cuban coffee. Lanuza isn’t a traditional caregiver. She more of a companion, according to Zilio. The pair met when Lanuza signed up to work for Papa, a new app and phone-based service for seniors. "Papa connects college students to older adults for companionship, assistance, and transportation,” says CEO and founder Andrew Parker. “It’s kind of like a grandkid on-demand." Parker thought pairing college students with seniors could fill a void he saw. “My grandfather, who we call papa, needed help but wasn't really ready for traditional healthcare services, and I thought it was weird there was nothing available before that,” Parker says. “So, I thought it would be interesting to connect him to college student, and he loved it.” Lanuza is a sophomore pre-med student, and she needed a job that fit with her busy class schedule. She passed the company's background and personality checks and got the gig. “I came over. I met Viola and we clicked instantly,” Lanuza says. “And from there, I’ve been coming every Tuesday to see her, and we hang out. It’s just like hanging out with a friend.” Zilio says Lanuza gives her someone to talk to. "Seeing her once a week is kind of like being like another grandmother to me,” Lanuza says.Currently in the Miami area, Papa costs around an hour. It’s hard to know exactly what your symptoms mean, especially these days.“In actuality, the differences are really very small and almost negligible,” said Cleveland Clinic Dr. Baruch Fertel.According to Fertel, there are little differences between COVID and flu symptoms.“The muscle aches, the fever, the cough, GI symptoms like diarrhea, headache those symptoms can be found with both,” said the doctor.But there is one difference."I would say the only major difference, which is actually a minor difference is that loss of taste or smell that’s something that seems to be unique to the COVID-19 coronavirus and not something we’ve seen in the past with the flu,” said Fertel.He says this flu season will be much different from others."I think in the past, I certainly made an empiric diagnosis of the flu, I told people to stay home, stay out of work for a couple days, no problem,” said Fertel. "I think it's really important to get testing for a number of reasons, the isolation period for COVID is longer than that of the flu. I am very grateful to have the foremost experts in the country working to locate the remains of victims from the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. Today, our research team found an unmarked grave in an area previously identified through geophysical survey work. The next step will be to identify if the remains are associated with the Tulsa Race Massacre. This will be done through forensic analysis of the remains, and by comparing them with funeral home and death certificate records. Archaeologists conducted extensive test excavations and concluded with no evidence of human remains.However, the search could continue beyond Oaklawn Cemetery. Researchers said several areas are still candidates for possible mass grave sites related to the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre.
