San Diego (KGTV)- A high school teen decided to use his passion for science and astronomy to create a virtual space camp. The teen hopes to spark the interest of kids around the county and beyond.Ryan Clairmont is a junior at Canyon Crest Academy High School. He says his interest in astronomy started at a young age.“I remember when I was 6 or 7 years old, I went to the Palomar observatory,” says Clairmont. “I was able to look through their 60-inch telescope at Jupiter and the moon. It was an eye-opening experience for me.”The teen had plans to participate in a bio-physics internship this summer, but it was canceled due to the pandemic.“At that point, I realized there must be a lot of other children in San Diego and across the country, whose in-person summer programs have been canceled for the summer.”That’s when Clairmont created Cosmoto, a free virtual space for kids. Each day kids will learn about a different space topic and participate in hands-on science experiments and activities. All of the materials for the activities are low-cost items you can find at home. The full list of supplies is located on the Cosmoto website. So far, more than 100 kids have signed up for the virtual space camp. There are five weeks of lessons. Kids can start at any time. 1278

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - With young children fast asleep in their bedroom, surveillance video shows a burglar on the prowl at a home in South Park. Just off 32nd Street, Billy McCowan woke up to a disturbing sight on Wednesday morning."Came over and saw the side door open to the garage," said McCowan.RELATED: La Mesa woman wakes up to burglar in her bedroomA look at the surveillance video revealed who had been on his property. Starting at about 8 p.m., a pickup truck pulls up and parks across from his home. At about 5 a.m., a man wrapped in a blanket emerges from the truck and walks through his front gate.McCowan believes the burglar walked through the unlocked door to a detached garage - a converted office - and grabbed an iPhone. Video shows the man roaming the property. Next up was a detached hot tub room."We had a small TV in here," said McCowan. In the video, the burglar is seen carrying that TV. Meanwhile, inside the home were McCowan's wife, and two children, ages 3 and 5. They were all asleep.Forty-five minutes after the man first arrives, the intruder is seen peering into the children's bedroom. By this time, McCowan has woken up and he's making coffee in the kitchen. The man appears to see him and ducks down, before quietly getting into his truck and driving off. It was a fortunate twist. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two years after Lime scooters hit the pavement, the company has reached a milestone - surpassing 100 million rides globally. The company is thanking its riders who span across more than 120 cities, 30 countries, and five continents.A San Diego chef is one of those riders; in fact, he too reached a personal milestone. "My name is Justin Vaiciunas, and I am San Diego's #1 Lime rider!"A Lime representative called Vaiciunas last week to tell him about the accomplishment; Vaiciunas clocked in nearly 600 rides this year."I live right over off of Pacific Highway, and I scooter from there to work every day and back, and then also all around; even to Balboa Park, North Park, everywhere I can," said Vaiciunas. Vaiciunas likes how accessible and easy the scooters make it getting around downtown. He now uses them for 80 percent of his commutes. "I used to spend about in gas a week; now I maybe spend that a month."The company says with the growth they've increased education outreach as well as efforts to be good stewards in the cities they serve. A San Diego Lime Patrol Team picks up misplaced scooters. As for Vaiciunes, his next goal is being the country's #1 Lime rider.Last month Lime's future in San Diego was called into question when the City claimed the company violated geo-fencing rules. The city then began the process to revoke Lime's permit. But a Lime spokesperson says the company looks forward to an upcoming hearing to make its case. A date for that hearing has not yet been set. 1530
