SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Infinite Chemical Analysis Lab building in Miramar looks like any other chemical lab, but inside the products they are testing are all cannabis. InfiniteCal tests products for things like potency, pesticides, heavy metals and microbial analysis to make sure the products are safe for consumption and meet state standards. Josh Swider is the CEO and co-founder. Swider's company consists of roughly 45 employees, 30 of those are either chemists or biologists. The team tests products for licensed retailers to make sure their cannabis meets the standard for what is allowed by the state. When it comes to vaping, Swider says their analysis shows that what's making people sick is when the product is diluted, most recently with Vitamin E or Vitamin E acetate. According to the CDC, 33 people have died from lung related illnesses linked to e-ciggarettes or vaping products. Most of those samples tested by the FDA had THC. San Diego County has confirmed 22 vape related illnesses in the county. Although InfiniteCal doesn't just test products for vaping, Swider says the best thing a person can do is to do their research and make sure they are buying from a licensed retailer. He also recommends asking the business for their certificate of analysis to find out what's in the cannabis product they're consuming. InfiniteCal operates six days a week and also will tests an individual consumer's product if they show up to the lab. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The cities of Escondido and La Mesa are taking measures to help restaurants expand outdoor dining after a rollback of indoor dining in the county due to surging coronavirus cases.Starting Friday, Escondido will reduce traffic to one lane in each direction on Grand Avenue, between Maple Street and Juniper St., to allow restaurants to expand temporary outdoor seating. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The man accused in the death of three migrants found in the trunk of a car in August was arraigned on related charges in San Diego court Tuesday. According to court documents, Neil Edwin Valera, a U.S. citizen who lives in Mexico, was arraigned in federal court in connection with the deaths of three Chinese migrants, including a mother and her 15-year-old son. The third person in the trunk was a female. None of the victims have been identified. Authorities say Valera is a truck driver from El Paso, Texas. He was arrested at a downtown bus station Saturday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The California Department of Public Health made a quiet announcement late Monday night that could be a welcoming relief for families all over the state looking for outdoor activities amid the pandemic.Health officials are allowing counties to reopen outdoor playgrounds located in parks, campgrounds, and other publicly accessible locations.But guidance is firm and strict as the state continues to battle the deadly coronavirus pandemic."COVID-19 continues to pose a severe risk to communities and requires all people in California to follow necessary precautions and to adapt the way they live and function in light of this ongoing risk," state health officials said.At the top of the list of requirements is the rule on face coverings. "Face masks over the mouth and nose are required for everyone 2 years of age or older with caregiver supervision at all times to ensure face mask use," officials said.Other rules include a 30-minute limit on visits when others are present, no eating or drinking in playgrounds, and elderly persons and others with underlying medical conditions should avoid playground when others are present."This guidance does not apply to indoor playgrounds or family entertainment centers," the state said.San Diego County has not yet issued a timeline for when the caution tape wrapped around local playgrounds since March will finally come down.Last Tuesday, a group of two dozen state lawmakers sent a letter to Governor Gavin Newsom asking him to create clear guidelines for reopening.
