San Diego International Airport is relocating its cell phone waiting lot to an area northwest of its current location on June 24. Drivers may park for free in the cell phone lot for up to an hour while they wait for loved ones to notify them of their arrival, avoiding traffic and illegal parking at the terminals.The new 85-space lot will be located east of the Airport Authority Administration Building on Harbor Drive. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego police officials have announced the arrest of two suspects in the murder of a security guard who was gunned down outside of an East Village homeless shelter last month.In a release sent Tuesday night, San Diego Police Department Acting Capt. Martha Sainz said homicide investigators were led to two suspects in the case through witness accounts and collected video footage from the area including from Smart Streetlights.The high-quality images obtained from the Smart Streetlights allowed investigators to identify 47-year-old Floyd Garrett and 40-year-old Johnny Hill as the suspects, according to Sainz."On January 4, 2020, investigators tracked Garrett to Phoenix, Arizona where he was arrested with the assistance of the Phoenix Police Department. Garrett will remain in custody in Phoenix, pending extradition hearings," said Sainz.Hill was located in San Diego and arrested by San Diego Police officers Tuesday without incident. He was booked into county jail for the murder.Both men are from San Diego, according to Sainz.Ernest Lee Buchanan, 44, was killed on Dec. 28 outside the Alpha Project shelter on Imperial Avenue. Buchanan was returning from taking a meal break when someone approached him and opened fire. Buchanan was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries a short time later. 1344

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County’s public health officer said a Pacific Beach gym ordered to close last week has been linked to a community COVID-19 outbreak.The Gym, located at 2949 Garnett Ave., was ordered to close on July 23 for violating public health orders, according to a document from the county.County Public Health officer Wilma Wooten said the county discovered the outbreak on Tuesday. Wooten couldn’t offer any further details. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Rideshare drivers all over California are on strike protesting recent pay cuts by both Uber and Lyft. A small but vocal group of the drivers gathered at the San Diego airport Monday morning, opting to take part in a statewide protest against the companies they say are taking money out of their pockets. Recently, Uber announced it would be cutting drivers wage from 80 cents per mile to 60 cents. Workers say that’s on top of other cuts they’ve dealt with over the years. Drivers who spoke with 10News say other states like New York require companies to pay a minimum rate of more than per hour. Uber and Lyft both issued statements after the protest.Uber said in part, “…we're introducing a new Quest promotion feature, while also changing the per minute, per mile and minimum fare rates. These changes will make rates comparable to where they were in September."Lyft told 10News: "We are always open to conversations around how we can make Lyft better for drivers, but what we hear from the majority is that this is a flexible option that works for them." 1090
