WASHINGTON, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- The journal Science on Thursday chose the HPTN 052 clinical trial, an international HIV prevention trial as the 2011 Breakthrough of the Year.The study found that if HIV-infected heterosexual individuals begin taking anti-retroviral medicines when their immune systems are relatively healthy as opposed to delaying therapy until the disease has advanced, they are 96 percent less likely to transmit the virus to their uninfected partners. Other researchers identified a star that is almost completely devoid of metals, just as the universe's earliest stars must have been, but that formed much later. BEIJING, Nov. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- The U.S. FBI and police in the Philippines have arrested four alleged hackers in Manila with connections to a terrorist group in Saudi Arabia, according to media reports Monday.The four who were arrested last Wednesday hacked into AT&T Inc.'s phone systems as part of a plan to funnel money to a Saudi-based terror group, the reports said.The hackers, according to the investigators, worked for a group that helped finance a deadly 2008 terrorist attack in Mumbai, India.Investigators also said the hacking cost AT&T around 2 million U.S. dollars. And an AT&T representative told Reuters that it "ended up writing off some fraudulent charges that appeared on customer bills" but did not comment on the 2 million dollars figure."AT&T and its network were neither targeted nor breached by the hackers," AT&T spokeswoman Jan Rasmussen said. SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 3 (Xinhua)-- Amazon on Thursday launched an e-book lending service for owners of its Kindle devices, letting them borrow one digital book per month with no due date.Amazon said Kindle owners with an annual Prime membership can choose from thousands of books to borrow for free, including over 100 current and former New York Times Bestsellers. The online retail giant did not give an exact figure on the number of books of the new service.According to the company, readers' notes, highlights and bookmarks in borrowed books will be saved, so they will have them later if they purchase or re-borrow the book.
