MANAGUA, Nicaragua — Hurricane Iota is moving across northern Nicaragua with hurricane strength winds of around 85 mph after making landfall as a dangerous Category 4 storm. Iota came ashore along almost exactly the same stretch of Nicaragua’s Caribbean coast that was devastated by an equally powerful Hurricane Eta just 13 days earlier. Iota had intensified into an extremely dangerous Category 5 storm during the day Monday, but the U.S. National Hurricane Center says it weakened slightly as it neared the coast late Monday and made landfall with maximum sustained winds of 155 mph (250 kph). Eta’s torrential rains saturated the soil in the region, meaning Iota's rains have nowhere to go and could cause deadly landslides.In their 7 a.m. update, the National Hurricane Center said Iota is expected to create "flash flooding, landslides, life-threatening storm surge and powerful winds across portions of Central America Tuesday."The NHC says Iota is moving west, further inland, and will move across Honduras Tuesday night into Wednesday. Middletown, Connecticut (WFSB) -- A car slammed into Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, Connecticut and caught fire on Thursday morning.According to Middletown Mayor Dan Drew, the act was intentional and that there were gas cans in the car.Drew said in a noon news conference that a man in his 20s crashed into the emergency room entrance and then set himself on fire. He was reportedly at Bridgeport Hospital in critical condition.One person was hurt, according to dispatchers.“I heard a noise," said Gary Mills, an eyewitness. "I was in my room. I put my shoes on and looked out the window and I saw all the smoke coming out. I said 'something is happening over there.' My sister got up. We went outside and we saw all the flames and then over this side I see this guy screaming, he was screaming! I said, that guy's on fire."The Connecticut State Police Bomb Squad has responded, WFSB reported.It happened at the emergency room entrance on Crescent Street around 10 a.m.Mayor Dan Drew posted to social media."At this time, we don't believe there is any threat to the community and we believe this to be an isolated incident," Drew said.The hospital is in "emergency operations mode," hospital officials said.The Life Star emergency helicopter was dispatched to the scene.However, it's unclear how serious the person's injuries are.WFSB saw the emergency room door pushed in with the car inside as well as shattered glass.Several fire departments were called for mutual aid.  1494

MICHIGAN — Six Detroit-area doctors were charged with fraudulent health care billing and unlawful prescribing of opioids, according to a federal indictment.The defendants, identified as Rajendra Bothra, Eric Backos, Gainu Edu, David Lewis, Christopher Russo and Ronald Kufner, each played different roles at different times, the indictment said. Over the course of the conspiracy, the defendants allegedly submitted claims for more than 2.5 million to Medicare, 2.6 million to Medicaid and .2 million to Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan for services and equipment that was medically unnecessary, not eligible for reimbursement and/or not provided as represented.According to the indictment, the defendants issued more than 13,217,987 dosage units of Schedule II opioids, including Oxycontin, Percocet and Vicodin.The scheme, beginning in January 2013, was operated at three clinics: The Pain Center located in Eastpointe and Warren and the Interventional Pain Center in Warren.
