SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — PETA is taking aim at SeaWorld once again, this time hoping to put a stop to the parks' dolphin shows.Officials held a press conference Wednesday to call out the park for what they called "dangerous," "circus-style" dolphins shows. The group argues trainers use dolphins "as surfboards" and have caused "open wounds and extensive scarring" on the animals."SeaWorld ceded to public pressure and said that it would phase out its circus-style orca shows, but dozens of other dolphins are still packed into shallow tanks, forcibly bred, and used as surfboards and launch pads in its shows," Heather Rally, a PETA Foundation veterinarian, said. "PETA is calling on SeaWorld to end these demeaning tricks and stop standing on dolphins' backs and faces."Rally, "Blackfish" director Gabriela Cowperthwaite, and behavioral biologist Dr. Toni Frohoff presented a report Wednesday in regards to their observations at the parks. The three argued that the shows, which are performed at all three of SeaWorld's parks, risk damage to dolphins' lower jaws. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police body-worn cameras captured the parents of Trevor Heitmann pleading with officers to hospitalize their son just hours before he killed himself and two others in a high-speed car crash.In August 2018, Trevor Heitmann, known on his popular YouTube channel as McSkillet, ultimately drove the wrong way down the 805 at speeds over 100 miles per hour before the fatal accident.A lawsuit filed against the City of San Diego claims, police officers failed “to act in accordance with the statute and carry out their mandatory duty,” and as a result, Heitmann, “subsequently and predictably endangered the lives of others and himself and drove his vehicle at speeds in excess of 100 mph, striking Aileen and Aryana Pizarro's vehicle and endangering other members of the public.”The lawsuit goes on to say, “Because he was not evaluated by defendants to determine if he was a danger to himself or others, he was able to carry on with his erratic and mentally unstable behavior, and ultimately colliding head-on with Aileen Lydia Pizarro's vehicle, and thereby, causing fatal injuries to Aileen and Aryana Pizarro." 1137

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- More than a dozen migrants were apprehended after 150 migrants tried to climb the border fence in San Diego, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The incident happened New Year’s Eve at an unspecified time. According to the agency, 45 migrants turned back due to CBP’s increased presence at the border before another group of migrants started throwing rocks at agents. Border Patrol agents added that the group tried to lift toddler-sized children over the concertina wire, but agents were unable to help the children because too many rocks were being thrown. Agents used pepper spray upwind and tear gas of the migrants to try and deter them from throwing rocks. CBP says the measures weren’t aimed at the migrants and “successfully suppressed the rock throwers causing them to flee the area.”Most of the migrants returned to Mexico through a hole under the fence and by climbing back over the fence. A total of 25 migrants were apprehended. Under CHP’s use of force policy, the incident is being reviewed. The incident comes on the heels of another recent event at the border in which hundreds of migrants tried to rush the border, forcing the hours-long closure of the San Ysidro Port of Entry. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- One man was shot after a fight broke out near a house party in San Diego’s Jamacha-Lomita neighborhood late Saturday night. According to police, the shooting happened on the 1100 block of Koe Street at 11 p.m. Witnesses told police a fight broke out in the street near the house party before shots were fired. Police say the suspect left the scene while the victim was taken to Paradise Valley Hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. The suspect was taken into custody after he was found at a nearby 7-Eleven with a gun in his car. At this time, the names of the suspect and victim haven’t been released. 645
