MARSHALL, Minn. — A couple in Minnesota wore red face masks emblazoned with swastikas to a Walmart in a video posted on social media.Police were called Saturday to the Walmart in Marshall, in the southwest part of the state, on a report that two shoppers were wearing the mask with the symbol used by the Nazi Party.The Star Tribune reports another shopper, who is a vicar of a southwest Minnesota parish, posted a video on Facebook of the man and woman being confronted by others in the store."If you vote for Biden you're gonna be in Nazi Germany. That's what it's going to be like," one of the masked shoppers said in the video, which was posted to Facebook.Marshall police gave the couple no-trespass notices but did not cite or arrest them.Walmart says the Arkansas-based retailer "will not tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment" in its business."What happened today at our store in Marshall, MN is unacceptable. We strive to provide a safe and comfortable shopping environment for all our customers and will not tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment in any aspect of our business," the store said in a statement to KARE-TV in Minneapolis. McDonald’s plans to accelerate “some restaurant closings previously planned for future years” because of the pandemic, resulting in 200 closures in the U.S. in 2020.More than half of the closures are restaurants in Walmart store locations, according to the company. They did not detail which stores would be closing.The announcement came during an earnings call with investors and reporters Tuesday, in which McDonald’s talked about their up-and-down second quarter of the year. They said 96% of its 39,000 restaurants worldwide are now open, compared to 75% at the start of the second quarter in April.But the recovery is uneven. Improvement has slowed in China, but same-store sales are improving in the U.S. McDonald’s net income fell 68% to 4 million during the second quarter.McDonald’s has about 14,000 restaurants in the U.S. and on the earnings call said they will have a gain of 350 net new restaurants this year as construction gets started in parts of the country.McDonald’s is not alone in closing restaurants during the pandemic. Middletown, Connecticut (WFSB) -- A car slammed into Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, Connecticut and caught fire on Thursday morning.According to Middletown Mayor Dan Drew, the act was intentional and that there were gas cans in the car.Drew said in a noon news conference that a man in his 20s crashed into the emergency room entrance and then set himself on fire. He was reportedly at Bridgeport Hospital in critical condition.One person was hurt, according to dispatchers.“I heard a noise," said Gary Mills, an eyewitness. "I was in my room. I put my shoes on and looked out the window and I saw all the smoke coming out. I said 'something is happening over there.' My sister got up. We went outside and we saw all the flames and then over this side I see this guy screaming, he was screaming! I said, that guy's on fire."The Connecticut State Police Bomb Squad has responded, WFSB reported.It happened at the emergency room entrance on Crescent Street around 10 a.m.Mayor Dan Drew posted to social media."At this time, we don't believe there is any threat to the community and we believe this to be an isolated incident," Drew said.The hospital is in "emergency operations mode," hospital officials said.The Life Star emergency helicopter was dispatched to the scene.However, it's unclear how serious the person's injuries are.WFSB saw the emergency room door pushed in with the car inside as well as shattered glass.Several fire departments were called for mutual aid.  1494

For women, suicide rates were highest among those who work in arts, design, entertainment, sports and media.From 2000 to 2016, the suicide rate among the US working-age population -- people 16 to 64 -- increased 34%, the report says.Using information from the 17 states that participated in the 2012 and 2015 National Violent Death Reporting System, the CDC analyzed the suicide deaths of 22,053 Americans of working age. Occupations were classified using the Standard Occupational Classifications from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.In 2015, the construction and extraction field had the highest rates of suicides for men, with 53.2 suicides per 100,000 working people. LOUISVILLE, Ky. – One of the three Louisville police officers involved in the shooting death of Breonna Taylor is being fired.The city’s mayor, Greg Fischer, announced Friday that the police department is initiating termination procedures against officer Brett Hankison, 44.“Unfortunately, due to a provision in state law that I very much would like to see changed, both the Chief and I are precluded from talking about what brought us to this moment, or even the timing of this decision,” the mayor said in a statement.According to a termination letter obtained by WLKY, Hankison was informed of his firing Friday morning.The other two officers involved in the fatal shooting, 47-year-old Jon Mattingly and 42-year-old Myles Cosgrove, remain with the department, but have been placed on administrative reassignment, the Courier Journal reports.As part of a narcotics investigation, the officers used a battering ram to knock down Breonna Taylor’s door as they served a no-knock warrant in the early morning hours of March 13.During the incident, Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, has said that he thought the officers were intruders and fired a warning shot. The officers returned fire, shooting Taylor eight times, and she died in the hall of her apartment. No drugs were found.Thursday, Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron held a press conference, where he asked for patience from the public as his office investigates the shooting.Taylor's death is one of a handful of African Americans who have died at the hands of police officers or former police officers in 2020.
