SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A jury deadlocked Friday on two key charges regarding a drunk driving crash that killed a Lyft driver on SR-94.Steven Quintero was charged with six counts including murder and gross vehicular manslaughter in the Oct. 1 death of 41-year-old Henry Reyes of Escondido.The jury reached verdicts on four counts, finding Quintero guilty of DUI causing injury, DUI, hit and run with death, and driving on a suspended license. One of the women became ill and Reyes pulled over on the shoulder of SR-94 near 28th St. to give her some water.Minutes later, the Lyft car was hit from behind by Quintero’s car. Reyes, an aspiring dentist and the father of a 2-year-old child, was killed as he walked around the car to get back in."I was hit so hard I didn't know where I was," said passenger Kelly Hoffman, who was on the phone in the backseat when the collision occurred. Hoffman testified that she had a broken bone of the top of her foot, whiplash of the neck, and a concussion.Passenger Sarah Smith, who had cuts to her chin, a neck injury and a bruised spine, said she has no memory of the crash.At Quintero's arraignment, Deputy District Attorney Cally Bright said the murder count was warranted because a previous charge of driving under the influence was filed against the defendant in November 2015, and because he allegedly left the scene of the fatal crash. 1604

It's more sophisticated than swiping left or right, and it can help anyone looking for a job or career change.It's called My Next Move. The San Diego Workforce Partnership released it after a yearlong effort. The highlight is a 60-question questionnaire that gauges a job seeker's interests. For each task, a job seeker will choose an option from "strongly disagree" to "strongly agree." Examples include investigating the start of a fire, repairing and replacing locks, or examining blood under a microscope.At the end, the system will provide a list of sectors that the best fit the job seeker, including local retraining programs, salary information, top hiring employers, and open jobs. "Think of it like Match.com for careers," said Sarah Burns, the partnership's director of research application. "Once you get a career match, it says okay, well if you want to take the next step in this relationship, then here's what you do."Burns said the system will give each test-taker a percentage matching their interests to the potential career. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A sailboat and power boat collided near the Coronado Bridge Sunday afternoon, injuring four people, according to San Diego Harbor Police.A good Samaritan drove by and noticed people floating in life jackets as their boat took on water. He picked up nine people and ferried them to Pepper Park. "It's just what you do you're a boater, it's what you're supposed to do, you help out on the water, people have helped us and we've helped other people," Kary Brownlee said.The damaged powerboat, a Bayliner, was towed back to the Pepper Park launch ramp where four passengers were evaluated for minor injuries. No one was taken to the hospital.The sailboat cruised back to Coronado on its own power."All it takes is a split second, when the captain is not paying attention that could cause a collision," boat safety advocate Amos Zolna said. He explained sail boats generally have the right of way, as they are harder to maneuver, compared to a power boat. Zolna said it's hard to navigate near the bridge, due to the large pillars that create blind spots.Harbor Police reported the 911 call at 1:28 p.m. They are investigating the cause of the crash and if any alcohol was involved. 1204

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A plan to add bike lanes along 30th Street in North Park got a boost of support Tuesday from a group of 18 businesses.“We see protected lanes on 30th Street as just the beginning of the transformation of our streets to truly support biking, walking, and transit as meaningful transportation choices,” read the letter, which was sent to Mayor Kevin Faulconer and City Councilmember Chris Ward.It was signed by the owners of 18 local businesses located near 30th Street, including Modern Times Beer, Union Cowork, Waypoint Public and Bottlecraft.On Twitter, Modern Times Beer posted the letter, adding “Our world-class businesses deserve world-class streets. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A measure to implement ranked choice voting in the City of San Diego will be considered for the November ballot.The city's Rules Committee voted 3-2 on Wednesday to send the proposal to a full council vote, where councilmembers will decide if the measure is placed on the 2020 ballot this fall. The vote is expected to take place in July.Ranked choice voting would allow voters to list up to four candidates in order of preference, instead of casting one vote for a single candidate.RELATED: San Diego to consider major change to 'ranked choice' votingHere's how it would work:The top four candidates in each primary race would advance to the general election, instead of just the top two.In November, voters would then rank the candidates by preference.If one candidate has more than 50% of the vote on first count, that candidate would win. If no candidate reaches 50%, the last place finisher would be thrown out. That person's votes would then be reallocated according to the voters' second choice. The field would continue winnowing until a candidate tops 50%.The city would be required to also hold a voter awareness campaign to familiarize voters with the change.Councilmember Mark Kersey, who has led the effort to get the measure on the ballot, said in a release, "ranked Choice Voting increases choice for voters, competition and decreases negativity which is great for campaigns.
