(KGTV) — A woman and her 16-year-old daughter were rescued from a remote part of Otay Mountain Friday.U.S. Border Patrol said the woman and teenager were found after being lost without food and water in a mountainous area of southeast Otay Lakes Reservoir at about 12 p.m. Border Search Trauma and Rescue and San Diego Sheriff's Department responded to the rescue effort. (KGTV) - A plane made an emergency landing Friday on westbound Interstate 8, according to the California Highway Patrol.A 36-year-old student pilot and 25-year-old instructor from California Flight Academy were above El Cajon and had engine trouble about 11:15 a.m., the CHP reported.According to SDSUBaseball's twitter page, the instructor is Ryan Muno, a former Aztec baseball star.Both men were trying to land at Gillespie Field but were forced to touch down on the freeway. The instructor took over the controls and landed safely in lanes near Second Ave."The instructor took over the controls of the plane. (KGTV) - The San Diego Sheriff’s Office is investigating how several pounds of narcotics wound up magnetized to a man’s truck.A Mexican citizen who lives in Tijuana but works in El Cajon noticed a strange object in his fender Thursday morning and called authorities.Deputies found 4 packages containing roughly 5 pounds of narcotics hidden underneath the man’s pickup truck.The man’s next door neighbor informed them that they had seen men tampering with the victim’s truck overnight.“It’s our feeling that someone targeted this car because he could cross the border every day with the SENTRI pass and they were probably waiting to collect the narcotics later today,” said Sgt. Tim Chantler of the Sheriff’s office.Drivers with a SENTRI pass can travel in establishes dedicated commuter lanes to and cross the border faster after applying and being prescreened. Deputies are awaiting test results for the drugs but suspect either meth, heroin, or fentanyl.The driver is not considered a suspect as he called 911, according to authorities. “I would be checking my vehicle every day before I cross the border” said Sgt. DULZURA, Calif. (KGTV) - An East San Diego County man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of poisoning his wife with Thallium.The woman was taken to a hospital on March 15 with an unknown illness. Deputies said the woman had a level of Thallium in her system that was so high, medical staff believed her exposure was intentional.Thallium is a heavy metal which has been used in rat poison and ant pesticides.Sheriff’s detectives, along with the FBI, NCIS, and San Diego County HazMat, conducted an investigation and believed the woman’s husband was responsible for her poisoning.Race Remington Uto, 27, was booked into Vista Detention Facility. During the initial onset of the coronavirus pandemic, pediatric hospital visits dropped 42%, but in the months following, mental health visits by school-aged children jumped, according to new CDC data.According to data released by the CDC, the proportion of mental health–related visits for children aged 5–11 and 12–17 years increased approximately 24%. and 31%, respectively since March.“These findings provide initial insight into children’s mental health in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and highlight the importance of continued monitoring of children’s mental health throughout the pandemic, ensuring access to care during public health crises, and improving healthy coping strategies and resiliency among children and families,” the CDC said.The CDC said that many children receive mental health services through schools and community services. Many of these services were forced to close during the height of the pandemic.“The increase in the proportion of ED visits for children’s mental health concerns might reflect increased pandemic-related stress and unintended consequences of mitigation measures, which reduced or modified access to children’s mental health services, and could result in increased reliance on ED services for both routine and crisis treatment,” the CDC said. 1306
