LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A member of a downtown Los Angeles street gang caught with thousands of dollars worth of methamphetamine packaged to resemble 14 foil-wrapped burritos was sentenced Monday to 15 years behind bars for federal drug and gun crimes.Ricardo ``Flaco'' Renteria, 48, of Colton, was also ordered to serve five years of supervised release following prison and pay a mandatory special assessment of 0.``He has a very long criminal history,'' Chief U.S. District Judge Virginia A. Phillips said from the bench. ``This was a large amount of methamphetamine -- and the way it was packaged, it was clearly for sale.''According to evidence presented at trial, Los Angeles police officers pulled Renteria over on Feb. 3, 2018, in the Angelino Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles after they witnessed him erratically and evasively driving a white Chevrolet Tahoe.Renteria consented to a search of the SUV and law enforcement found a black garbage bag on the floor behind the driver's seat. Inside the bag were 14 foil-wrapped, burrito-shaped packages containing 13.7 pounds of methamphetamine with a street value ranging from ,000 to ,000.A subsequent search revealed a fully loaded Smith & Wesson .38 Special handgun and more than 0 in cash, evidence showed. Renteria was arrested at the scene and indicted by a federal grand jury in March 2018.After a one-day bench trial in March, Phillips found him guilty of three felonies: possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.At his sentencing hearing, Renteria asked the judge to ``take into consideration (that) I have a family waiting for me -- and I apologize for the situation I find myself in.''But Phillips said that a significant prison sentence was necessary ``to protect the public from further crimes of the defendant.'' LONG ISLAND, N.Y. — A helicopter crashed offshore near Jones Inlet Wednesday afternoon, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.Officials said the pilot, a 64-year-old man, appeared to be attempting a controlled descent at Meadow Island at around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday. The chopper landed in an area with about three feet of water.Rescue crews from the Coast Guard and several other local agencies responded. The pilot was rescued from the aircraft and taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, including a facial laceration and back and rib pain. He was the only one on board.There was also some damage to the helicopter.Chief Petty Officer David Turner of the U.S. Coast Guard said he did not know the cause of the crash, nor did he know details of the flight plan.There was very thick fog in the area Wednesday, and while Turner did not know if it was a contributing factor to the landing, he said it's difficult to operate in those conditions.Visibility was only a half-mile in the area at the time of the incident with misty conditions in the area."I kept on hearing this helicopter, circling and circling, and after a couple of circles, it didn't sound right to me," said Damian Walsh the man who helped rescue the pilot and took video of the immediate aftermath.Walsh was out on his boat when he says a thick fog quickly rolled in around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon."It turned pretty quickly probably had about 20 yards of visibility," he said.He and another boater rushed to the scene after hearing a loud splash.One coast guard officer told Walsh that the pilot fell 1,000 feet in three seconds.The helicopter fell into shallow water."He was lucky; if he fell 50 yards over, he wouldn't have survived," Walsh said. "I got him on the boat; I called his wife, let her know he was alight."Walsh said he and a couple of other Good Samaritans got him over to rescuers."They wouldn't have found him in that fog. The company's move came in response to remarks made by Cannon on a podcast in which he discussed racial bias with a former Public Enemy member, Richard Griffin. According to NBC News, Cannon said on the podcast episode, which was shot last year but aired on June 30, that Black people were the "true Hebrews" and talked about anti-Semitic conspiracy theories involving the Rothschild family.Cannon produced "Wild 'n Out," a comedy improv series for VH1, the ViacomCBS-owned cable channel. The New York Times and Variety have since confirmed the authenticity of the clip.Cruise apparently became angry when he saw two crew members standing too close together at a computer screen, violating a rule that says people must stand six feet to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.In the profanity-laden audio, the actor can be heard saying, “We are creating thousands of jobs, you mother****ers.
