SAN DIEGO — Business owners across San Diego County are readying to push back against a potential new round of Coronavirus restrictions.The county could reach the state’s most restrictive purple tier on Tuesday, meaning restaurants, gyms, nail salons and estheticians would all have to stop indoor service.Business owners are now calling this a fight for survival.“We’ve been in the red since March, so the bleeding’s got to stop somewhere,” said Ben Clevenger, who owns Lakeside’s Eastbound Bar and Grill.Clevenger has reduced his staff from 45 to about 15, and he’s now taking shifts running food and cooking in the kitchen. It’s the only way the restaurant can survive amid social distancing restrictions inside, and 100 degree weather outside.“Never do I mind getting my hands dirty, but I would much rather have an employee doing it because it’s money in their pocket,” Clevenger said.The county is on track to move into the state’s most restrictive tier of coronavirus restrictions on Tuesday - largely because of an increase in cases at San Diego State University.On Monday, the county Board of Supervisors will meet behind closed doors to decide whether to take action against the state. Just outside, business owners like Clevenger and Cesar Vallin, a managing partner at Little Italy’s Cloak & Petal, will hold a rally urging the board to act.“Where’s the support from this?” Vallin said. “I just got a property tax bill, I just got a sales tax bill, ,000 that you’re saying I have to pay and if I’m late, it’s a ,000 late fee. Businesses able to move outside had to figure out how to make it work - in order to make it through.North Park's Last Real Gym on University Avenue is one of them. On Wednesday, owner Frank Koll and a few of his staffers moved equipment out onto Iowa Street. It was the only way to survive - because Koll exhausted all of his Paycheck Protection Program funds that got him through the first shutdown."Closed again is something physically, financially and mentally something I can't do, and I won't do, so I will be like a chameleon and adapt to anything that this governor throws my way," Koll said. The gym moved the equipment on the sidewalk and also has an interior outdoor space to utilize. By Wednesday just after 12 p.m., a half-dozen people were working out on the sidewalk, including Felicia Brown, a regular who drives all the way from Spring Valley. "I think it's just businesses being creative and saying - 'You know what? We can't afford another shutdown for two, three, four months,'" she said. The county says impacted businesses are able to operate outside or under well-ventilated tents. That rule, however, doesn't apply to salons due to state regulation, which says they can only cut hair inside. San Diego was one of more than 3,600 locations that held the global Climate Change Walkout. Hundreds of teenagers marched from San Diego High School in Downtown to the San Diego Civic Center, hoping to make an impact, three days before the United Nations Climate Change Summit. It's a fight against time. Time, they say, the planet does not have. "Climate change is the existential threat of our generation," Elea Castiglione said. The sophomore at San Deigo High School organized the walkout with her friends. She and hundreds of students hoped their actions would inspire world leaders to take aggressive steps to combat climate change. Point Loma High School senior, Kisi Apaak performed her spoken-word piece, "Madness," at the San Diego Civic Center rally. Being 17, she said she does not have an income, nor does she have the right to vote. She said spoken-word is her way to show Mother Nature that she cares."This is all I know how to do, is write and talk and get out and take action," Apaak said. Many said they were inspired by Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old Swedish climate change activist, who has now become the face of the movement. Activists here said San Diegans should be more involved, considering our geography."I think that San Diego as a city needs to go carbon neutral, and we also need to be leaders as a coastal city in our protest for nationwide and global change," Castiglione said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 19-year-old man was hospitalized Saturday morning with nine stab wounds suffered in a fight with another man in the Egger Highlands area of San Diego.Just before midnight Friday, the victim and the suspect got into a shouting match while standing in the doorway of the suspect's house in the 1700 block of Elm Avenue, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.The argument turned physical and the victim thought he was being punched, but it turned out he was being stabbed, Heims said. The victim was stabbed in both arms, the chest and stomach.He was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening wounds, Heims said.Officers responded to the suspect's home and arrested Homero Lunaosuna, 19, and recovered the knife used in the attack, Heims said. 809

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 48-year-old man riding a motorized bike may not survive the major injuries he sustained when he crashed into a vehicle Friday evening in the Grantville area of San Diego, authorities said.The victim was riding a motorized GT bike in the 6500 block of Mission Gorge Road about 7:55 p.m. when he attempted to cross from the west side of the street to the east side and crashed at a nearly 90-degree angle into the passenger side of a gray 2014 Subaru traveling northbound in the No. 2 lane, causing the bike to overturn, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.The victim was taken to a hospital with major blunt force trauma and his survival was in question, Heims said.Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, he said.The SDPD Traffic Division investigated the accident. 825
