The girlfriend of the man killed Thursday after a shooting in a Nashville mall was taken into custody on gun charges. According to an affidavit from Metro Nashville Police, Alexandria Lavender was arrested on two counts of theft of property, ,000 or less, and unlawful gun possession for having two stolen guns with her. The shooting happened just before 2:30 p.m. local time Thursday inside a hallway near an Auntie Anne's pretzel shop, just across from an Old Navy store. Police said two men – identified as Justin Golson and Demarco Churchwell – got into an argument that led to gunfire.Churchwell was taken to Skyline Medical Center in critical condition, where he later died. Golson was arrested and charged with criminal homicide. According to police documents, Churchwell’s girlfriend – Alexandria Lavender – was with him as he was being extracted from the mall. A witness said she had a gun in her purse, which police said could be seen in plain view from the top of the bag. Authorities said she did not have a valid handgun permit. The guns were checked by police records and were found to be reported stolen out of Dickson and Davidson counties.   1238

The FBI says a British socialite who was accused by many women of helping procure underage sex partners for Jeffrey Epstein has been arrested in Bradford, New Hampshire.The FBI said Thursday that Ghislaine Maxwell was taken into custody at around 8:30 a.m. on charges related to the Epstein scandal.Epstein killed himself in a federal detention center in New York last summer while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.Maxwell was accused by many women of recruiting them to give Epstein massages, during which they were pressured into sex. She's been charged with four counts relating to sex trafficking and two counts of perjury.During a press conference Thursday, Acting Attorney for the Southern District of New York Audrey Strauss thanked the victims who came forward to authorities. She said that without their help, they would not be able to charge Maxwell.Strauss also urged Prince Andrew to speak with investigators and cooperate with the ongoing investigations into Epstein and Maxwell. The British royal was known to be friendly with Epstein during the time abuse occurred and has described their relationship as a friendship. He even stayed at Epstein's New York apartment in 2010, two years after Epstein was convicted of sex crimes.Maxwell has repeatedly denied wrongdoing and called some of the claims against her "absolute rubbish." 1361

"So by the age of two children receive up to 10 vaccines and 26 shots and so that is a lot of shots."That's why Dr. Glanz and his team set out to see if getting that many vaccines was harmful."Thankfully our study show that it wasn't harmful," Dr. Glanz says.Dr. Glanz says many parents are concerned vaccines could overload their child's immune system and increase their risk of getting an infection in the future.The NOW's Kumasi Aaron asked Dr. Glanz, "Is there such thing as overloading an infant with vaccines?" "We did not see a list of that," Dr. Glanz replied. "We saw no evidence that receiving all the vaccines and receiving them on time in anyway damaged the child's immune system."The study looked at infants two years after they got those vaccines, and found they weren't likely to be more susceptible to other infections not targeted by those vaccines.Dr. Glanz says, "I'm hoping he provides some reassurance that these vaccines are safe and the benefits greatly outweigh the risks and that if they have any concerns that they should talk about it with the doctors." 1658

The CDC is recommending Americans not travel for Thanksgiving during the current spike in coronavirus cases nationwide.“As cases continue to increase rapidly across the United States, the safest way to celebrate Thanksgiving is to celebrate at home with the people you live with,” the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website reads. “Travel may increase your chance of getting and spreading COVID-19. Postponing travel and staying home is the best way to protect yourself and others this year.”This is the strongest urging from the health agency, which is part of the Health and Human Services Department, asking Americans to take stricter precautions to slow the spread of the coronavirus.There are more than 11 million reported cases of COVID-19 in this country since the pandemic started, and more than 250,000 Americans have died."We're seeing exponential growth in cases," CDC COVID-19 incident manager Dr. Henry Walke said during a press briefing. "The opportunity to translocate disease or infection from one part of the country to another leads to our recommendation to avoid travel at this time."If people are still planning to travel for the Thanksgiving holiday, the CDC has a series of questions on their website for travelers and family members to consider before going ahead with travel plans.Questions include: Are you, someone in your household, or someone you will be visiting at increased risk for getting very sick from COVID-19? Are cases high or increasing in your community or your destination? Are hospitals in your community or your destination overwhelmed with patients who have COVID-19? Do your plans include traveling by bus, train, or air which might make staying 6 feet apart difficult?“We understand that people want to see their family and relatives and do it as they’ve always done it. But this year we’re asking them to limit their travel," Dr. Walke said. The CDC also recommends those who travel to follow all of their guidance for slowing the spread of coronavirus: wear a mask, wash hands, social distance, get the flu shot, and bring extra masks and hand sanitizer.Whether or not there is travel involved, the CDC also recommends some safety precautions when celebrating Thanksgiving with a group of people.These include bringing individual utensils, plates and cups to reduce sharing, wear a mask when around people not in your household - even indoors, use single-use options when possible to reduce sharing.Consider eating outside and limit the number of guests, the CDC says. Also, clean and disinfect touched surfaces between use.
