BEIJING, June 14 (Xinhua) -- The China Ping An Insurance (Group), which had plans to buy a 22 billion yuan (3.2 billion U.S. dollars) stake in Shenzhen Development Bank (SDB), said Sunday that there are no changes in buying into the bank for the moment.     There are no changes in the bank, and the stake purchase aims to improve Ping An's financial service and asset structure, said Zhang Zixin, general manager of the China's second largest insurer via a telephone news conference.     Ping An and SDB will operate with their own plans. The management team of the bank will not change right now, according to the Frank Newman, president of SDB, and Richard Jackson, president of the Ping An Bank Co., Ltd.     The company said last Friday it would buy 520 million shares from the U.S.-based TPG's Asian arm Newbridge Capital for 11.45 billion yuan by the end of 2010. Newbridge Capital is currently the top shareholder in Shenzhen Development Bank.     The Ping An would acquire no more than a 30 percent stake in Shenzhen Development Bank after the two deals, and become the top shareholder instead.     The Ping An Group, together with Ping An Life Insurance, currently holds a 4.68 percent stake in Shenzhen Development Bank.

BEIJING, July 4 (Xinhua) -- China did not lose its advantages in foreign trade despite global downturn and could retain foreign trade level above the global average once global economy recovered, a senior Chinese official said Saturday.     Yi Xiaozhun, vice commerce minister, was speaking at the Global Think Tank Summit that ended Saturday in Beijing.     Though China's foreign trade would not rise sharply as it did in the past few years, the country did not lose its foreign trade advantages thanks to policies to stimulate domestic demands, Yi said.     He said China had been diversifying foreign trade and reported increased trade with countries in Africa, Middle East, middle Asia and Latin America.     Yi also called for halt on protectionism, saying that protectionism had been picking up and about 40 percent of anti-dumping cases and 70 percent of anti-subsidy cases targeted China.     He called for pushing forward the Doha round negotiation, which he believed was key in fighting against protectionism.

BEIJING, April 27 -- The yuan will remain stable against the U.S. dollar as China will take a cautious and stable position in its foreign exchange investment.     The Chinese currency gained against the US dollar in the past week and ended at 6.8273 last Friday, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trade System. The yuan closed at 6.8311 by the end of the previous week.     China will continue its policy of diversifying its huge amount of foreign exchange reserves, the currency regulator said last Friday.     Hu Xiaolian, head of the State Administration of Foreign Exchange, told Xinhua news agency that it will stick to major currencies and high-quality assets in its foreign exchange investments.     China's overseas earnings hit 82.5 billion U.S. dollars in the past year, an 8-percent rise from a year earlier, according to data released by the administration last Friday.     Hu also noted the positive outlook of China's economy has lessened concerns over a depreciation in the yuan.

BEIJING, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Rainstorms since early the week have swept a wide swathe of south China, leaving dozens people dead or missing and forcing hundreds of thousands to evacuate.     In Jiangxi Province, two people were killed, three more were missing and more than 100,000 have been evacuated following the heaviest rain this summer, local flood control authorities said. The rain damaged 178,000 hectares of crops, caused 8,231 houses to collapse, and incurred a direct economic loss of 1.31 billion yuan (191.7 million U.S. dollars). BEIJING, May 26 (Xinhua) -- China's central government has allocated 270 billion yuan (about 39.7 billion U.S. dollars) for infrastructure investment so far this year, a National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) official told legislators Tuesday.     That amount is part of a planned total of 367.6 billion yuan in the 2009 central budget.     Adding another 30 billion yuan from last year's budget meant that the country had already allocated 300 billion yuan to infrastructure investment since the fourth quarter of last year, NDRC vice director Mu Hong told legislators.     The NDRC is China's top economic planning body.     Mu made his comments during a session on major public investment projects held by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the top legislature.     The money is also part of the 4-trillion-yuan, two-year stimulus plan announced late last year as the economic downturn deepened.
