(KGTV) — El Cajon Police are warning residents of a recent string of street robberies that have occurred over the past several weeks.Police said the victims have been described as elderly men and have been physically assaulted from behind by a lone suspect. None of the victims report seeing a weapon, but have been robbed while walking on public sidewalks in the areas of the 1000 block of East Main Street and the 800 block of Buena Terrace.The suspect in each case varies, but has been described as either an African American, Hispanic, or Middle Eastern male within the ages of 20 to 40 years old. It was gut-wrenching," said Erik Weichelt, President of the Fletcher Hills Little League."Just devastating for the league," said Weichelt's son Gage, 12, who plays in the league.Discovered on Saturday: a damaged fence, gate shoved open, and a locked batting cage that was broken into. A bevy of equipment was stolen, including a riding mower, a pitching machine, two custom hitting mats, two sets of catcher's gear, three catcher's mitts and hundreds of baseballs."To steal from the kids just doesn't make sense," said Weichelt.The total loss was about ,000."What a troubling year for this to happen," said Weichelt.So far this year, COVID-19 health orders have canceled the team's main fundraiser, along with limiting all activities to practices and no games. In the concession area, there is ,500 worth of food which will likely go unsold."No revenue has come in. We're losing money because fees are still there. The cost of lights and maintenance isn't going away," said Weichelt.Their financial dilemma is now a bigger issue because of the theft. (KGTV) - An El Cajon company has big plans to make small scale recycling a part of people's daily shopping routines.One Earth Recycling will open 100 shipping container recycling locations over the next five years. They plan to put them in shopping centers and other high-traffic areas. The idea is to make it easier to get to a recycling center, rather than making people drive to industrial areas or other parts of town to redeem their deposits."I think for the vast majority of consumers, they don't know where to go to get their money back or to recycle responsibly, or they assume it's more trouble than it's worth to recycle," says Josh Turchin, the owner of One Earth Recycling.A recent report from Consumer Watchdog backs up the notion that people aren't willing to search for redemption centers. The report says around 40% of California's recycling centers have closed in the last five years. Meanwhile, Californians have left at least 0 million on the table by not returning their bottles and cans for deposit refunds.Turchin says making it easier will solve that problem. Don't blame Amazon for the death of Toys "R" Us.It's true, online shopping didn't help matters, but the struggles of Toys "R" Us predate the boom in online shopping. Many of its wounds were self-inflicted.The company's biggest problem: It was saddled with billions of dollars in debt. That debt stopped it from making the necessary investment in stores. And that meant an unpleasant shopping experience that doomed the chain. The company told employees Wednesday that it would close or sell its US stores after 70 years in business."If you're going to have that breadth of inventory, you need someone in the store to help you find it, help you experience it," said Greg Portell, lead partner at retail consultant A.T. Kearney.
