(KGTV) - Grandparents and their grandson escaped a house fire in El Cajon Wednesday night but they lost their family cat.The fire broke out in the back room of a home on Gladys St. at 11 p.m.Despite the danger, the grandson ran back into the home to find the cat. He suffered smoke inhalation and was treated by paramedics.Another grandson told 10News his grandparents are devastated because they had lived at the home. He started a GoFundMe account to help them recover.The fire was knocked down in 15 minutes. Heartland Fire crews are investigating the cause.A Heartland Fire Battalion Chief who was responding to the fire collided with a car while exiting Interstate 8 at Mollison, El Cajon police said.No one was hurt, but both vehicles had to be towed. 782
EL CAJON (CNS) - A man was struck and killed by an SUV as he crossed a street in El Cajon, police said today.The man, believed to be 50 to 60 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene, Lt. Stephen Kirk of the El Cajon Police Department said.The motorist is cooperating with police and investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor, Kirk said. Police said the man was crossing Jamacha Road at the intersection with Granite Hills Drive at 10:15 p.m. Saturday and was struck by a 38-year-old El Cajon woman driving a 2019 Bentley SUV north on Granite.At the time of the collision, the man was walking outside the crosswalk, police said.The crash remains under investigation and Jamacha Road is expected to be closed in both directions between Granite Hills Drive and Washington Avenue until at least 4 a.m.The El Cajon Police Department is asking anyone with information to call 619- 579-3311. 914

(KGTV) — An East County restaurant hit hard by the pandemic has been hit by thieves, twice in a three-day span.Like so many other restaurants, the pandemic has not been kind to Hacienda Casa Blanca Mexican Restaurant and Cantina in El Cajon."Definitely not easy. It's been crazy with new changes every day," said co-owner Cindy Gomez.Gomez says the restaurant has received a federal PPP loan, but revenues are down about 30% to 40% since March."From the first day, we've been trying to keep our staff working .. Haven't had to lay off anyone," said Gomez.Gomez says they had to spend extra when COVID-19 restrictions led them to set up for dining in the parking lot. That extra money spent vanished overnight during a weekend a few weeks ago. Two large canopies and two umbrellas were stolen.A few days later, there was another theft. This time, an umbrella, table, chairs, and a plant disappeared."Take a lot to get angry, but I got angry. Then it went to total frustration," said Gomez.Eventually, the items from the second theft were recovered outside a nearby building. EL CAJON (CNS) - The husband of a pregnant woman killed when her car struck a tree after being rear-ended by an alleged drunk driver in Ramona testified Tuesday that he saw the accident in his rear-view mirror.Christian Foderingham's testimony came as a preliminary hearing got underway for Andrew Milonis, charged with murder, DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated in the May 14 death of 29-year-old Jessica Foderingham, who was eight months pregnant.The victim's husband testified that his wife was following him in her own car on San Vincente Road on the way to her grandmother's house on Mother's Day when he heard a loud bang, saw an SUV swerve onto a sidewalk and saw his wife's 2016 Dodge Dart slam into a tree in the center median.RELATED: Judge raises bail to M in Ramona fatal hit and run"It felt like my heart stopped," he said. "I ran back to her car."Christian Foderingham, a U.S. Marine, said he cut off the seat belt holding his wife's lifeless body in place and pulled her out of the car. Jessica Foderingham and her unborn daughter were pronounced dead later at a hospital.The husband said the force of the accident made it look like someone had taken a sledgehammer to his wife's lower body.According to the California Highway Patrol, Milonis was heading east on San Vicente Road when his 2011 GMC Yukon pickup rear-ended the victim's car near Arena Drive about 6:45 p.m.Milonis fled following the collision, then abandoned his vehicle about a mile away and called for a Lyft driver to give him a ride to a bar on Main Street, CHP public-affairs Officer Kevin Pearlstein said. Deputies found him at the tavern about an hour later and arrested him.According to court testimony, Milonis was arrested for DUI six months before the fatal accident when he allegedly drove drunk and hit a fence.The preliminary hearing will continue Wednesday. When it's over, Judge John Thompson will decide whether enough evidence was presented to order Milonis to stand trial. The defendant faces 40 years to life in prison if convicted. 2067
