SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — St. Augustine High School, an all-boys Catholic school in North Park, has filed a lawsuit against California Gov. Gavin Newsom and other state officials to allow the school to reopen for in-person instruction. The school says that after holding its summer school and athletic programs in-person for more than 400 students without any reports of COVID-19 cases, they are seeking to stop the state's enforcement against in-person classes during the pandemic this fall."At Saints, we don’t believe remote learning is sufficient to provide a quality education our students are entitled to and our families have come to expect," said Principal James Horne. "We are confident we can open our school safely, consistent with CDC and San Diego County health guidance. We ran a safe and successful summer school program and believe it is an indicator that we can safely return to school in the fall."The school says it adhered to the county's public health guidelines and safety measures during its summer programs, including required to face masks, social distancing requirements, air conditioning systems using UV lights to sanitize the air, and buildings and classrooms being regularly sanitized with an electrostatic disinfecting mist system.St. Augustine also said a distance learning option would still be offered for families who don't want to send their children back to school in-person."After appeals from many families to return to the classroom, Saints is pursuing the best way to offer opportunities that are the right fit for all its students and families," the school said. 1604

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Students at Gompers Preparatory Academy were evacuated following a threat the school said it received Monday. San Diego Police say they received a call around 3:50 p.m. after someone reportedly left a voicemail on an administrative line at the school, making a vague bomb threat. A staff member at the school pulled a fire alarm, initiating the evacuation. "GPA received a telephonic threat after school today and the campus has been evacuated," the school said in an Instagram post. According to authorities, the students were evacuated to a nearby park. Roughly 80 students were still on campus along with 30 to 35 staff members. Police arrived and used a K9 to comb through the school, but found no trace of a bomb. An investigation is underway to determine who left the voicemail. Today was the first day students returned to class at the academy. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Starting this year, San Diego State University will begin restricting freshmen living on campus from parking their cars on campus. The new policy will go into effect beginning this fall, the university said Thursday. Incoming freshmen students will not be allowed to park on campus for their first year of schooling.SDSU's website says the change reflects the college's stance that the, "on-campus living experience an integral and necessary part of the total education."RELATED: SDSU details plan to avoid flooding at Mission Valley campusIn a statement to 10News, SDSU said the policy follows similar parking restrictions enacted at other California universities, including University of California, San Diego, CSU Long Beach, and Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Waivers are also available for freshmen, "who may have unique needs," and "documented hardships," SDSU said. RELATED: Cost of college: What parents and students can expect to pay for admissionIn the statement, SDSU encouraged students — and faculty — to utilize public transportation systems surrounding the campus, and ride-sharing services. The school says it has also partnered with two transportation services to help freshmen: Zipcar, a car sharing service, and Zimride, which allows users to post rides or request rides via a mobile app.More information about the new policy and waivers is available online here. 1406
