TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — President Donald Trump's dad dancing to the Village People's "YMCA" is turning out to be a hit at his campaign rallies. On stage, Trump pumps his fists, bops, and lurches — sometimes to the beat. Backstage, top staff and campaign aides often join in, offering more traditional moves and using their bodies to spell out Y-M-C-A. Trump's rally dance has emerged as a rare moment of levity in an otherwise miserable campaign year marked by a deadly pandemic, an economic recession, and racial turmoil. His dance has spawned a TikTok video challenge and a parody on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert." 628
Two curious emperor penguins in Antarctica stumbled across a camera and the video is going viral. The curious birds flipped it over to face skyward, which recorded them staring into the camera and apparently trying to figure out what the device was doing on their turf. The Australian Antarctic division posted the 38-second clip on its Twitter page March 7. It has more than 246,000 views as of Friday morning. The camera was placed there by expeditioner Eddie Gault. The video was captured at the Auster Rookery near Australia's Mawson research station.#Penguin #selfie offers bird’s eye view of life in Antarctica! VALLEY CENTER, Calif. (KGTV) - An unscheduled Veterans Day tribute played out at a cemetery in the North County.More than a week ago, local florist Jenelle Brinneman learned Valley Center's annual Veterans Day program had been canceled by COVID-19, including a ceremony at Valley Center Cemetery. She started raising money online and during her flower deliveries. In the end, she raised enough to place roses at the graves of hundreds of veterans."We have over 300 veterans that laid to rest here and we just wanted to make sure they are remembered," said Brinneman.Donors could nominate veterans for rose bouquets. One of those donors was the family of Robert Cronin, an Army veteran who fought in World War II in France and Germany. He passed away in 1992 at the age of 83."It means a lot to me to have him honored because he was a special part of our lives," said granddaughter Francesca Pappagallo. She says Cronin earned numerous medals, including the Legion of Merit for inventing a slide rule tool to increase the accuracy of cannons. Loved ones thought his rank was 'Colonel,' but after he passed away, a different truth emerged."They did a lot of research and he was actually a retired one-star General. Makes sense he didn't share it, because he's so humble about his accomplishments," said Pappagallo.Brinneman has begun a Gofundme campaign for Christmas wreaths to honor fallen veterans. 1405
Two days before a bridge crumbled in Miami, killing six people, an engineer for the company that designed it called a Florida Department of Transportation employee, warning of "some cracking."The state employee was out on assignment that day. The call from W. Denney Pate of FIGG Bridge Engineers was unanswered, and the voice mail he recorded unheard -- until Friday. In the voice mail, Pate said the cracking on the north end of the span should be repaired. However, he added, there were no safety concerns on the project near Florida International University.PHOTOS: FIU bridge collapse rescue and recovery"We've taken a look at it and, uh, obviously some repairs or whatever will have to be done," Pate said."But from a safety perspective, we don't see that there's any issue there so we're not concerned about it from that perspective although obviously the cracking is not good and something's going to have to be, ya know, done to repair that." 958
Tropical Storm Beta is gaining strength off the coast of southern Texas, as Subtropical Storm Alpha makes landfall in Portugal Friday afternoon; both are making history because of their names and timing. This is only the second time in recent history more than 21 significant storms in the Atlantic have been named in a year. Tropical Storm Beta is number 23.The National Hurricane Center uses a list of 21 names each year to distinguish large storms they are tracking in the Atlantic Ocean. Once those names are all used, scientists use the Greek alphabet to name storms. 579
