WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court has refused to block the execution of four federal prison inmates who are scheduled to be put to death in July and August. The executions would mark the first use of the death penalty on the federal level since 2003. The justices rejected an appeal from four inmates who were convicted of killing children. (CNS) - A 45-year-old apparently homeless man suspected of arson was arrested after allegedly setting a car on fire in Vista.Deputies responded to a report of a car fire in the 1200 block of East Vista Way, near East Bobier Drive, about 10 p.m. Tuesday, according to Lt. Nancy Blanco of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department."On their way to the scene, a witness reported seeing a man, who appeared to be homeless, walk by the car, break a window and start the fire," Blanco said.Deputies located Jose Garcia, matching the suspect's description, who allegedly had a lighter in one hand and a pipe to smoke illegal drugs in another, according to Blanco.Garcia was arrested after a witness identified him in a curbside lineup, Blanco said. He was booked at the Vista Detention Facility for arson and possession of illegal drugs. 852

Prior to Nov. 3, General Services Administration director Emily Murphy held a Zoom call with the man who was in her shoes 20 years earlier during the contested 2000 election between George W. Bush and Al Gore. VISTA (CNS) - A homeless man accused of killing a 77-year-old retiree during a burglary at the victim's Oceanside beach house plead not guilty Wednesday at the courthouse in Vista.Carey Lamont Reid Jr., 21, was arrested last Sunday in connection with the slaying of John Roth on Aug. 14.DNA evidence obtained from the crime scene led homicide detectives to identify Reid as the perpetrator, Oceanside Police spokesman Tom Bussey said.
