SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Family Fun Center has returned to its roots in Kearny Mesa, reopening the Clairemont Mesa Blvd. location on Saturday.Following the closure of Boomers! last June after parent company Apex Parks Group filed for bankruptcy, the Huish family — who own the land — has revived the site under its original name.Shane Huish says his father built the original park at the site in 1974 and operated it for about 20 years before it was sold to Boomers! in the 1990s."With that happening, our family was excited to get them back. However, when we went back to the parks in June, we were floored," said Shane Huish.Huish says the former Boomers! was in need of several improvements and upgrades.Among those needed improvements, miniature golf, bumper boats, and an arcade all in need of a facelift.Saturday, the park reopened Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. with mini-golf on its Storybook and Westernland courses and go-karting, featuring updated karts and track. Also returning, Bullwinkle’s Restaurant.Huish says the park's bumper boats will need to wait for state guidance since they are considered an amusement park attraction."We have been fixing up the miniature golf courses and that will continue ... we have completely gutted the arcade building and remodeled it," Huish said, adding that the arcade will also have to await state guidance to reopen.Huish says the future of the former El Cajon Boomers!, which is also owned by the family, depends on how the business landscape looks in the next four to six months due to the pandemic.For now, a dose of family fun in the outdoors has returned to the property."Our family is super excited to be back in San Diego, we all grew up there," Huish said.For hours and more information, head to Family Fun Centers' website here. 1794

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Gas prices in Southern California continue to rise sharply as prices throughout the rest of the U.S. continue to fall. According to GasBuddy, the national average is down two cents, currently costing .65 per gallon. In California, the average as of Sunday is .98 per gallon and could hit by late Sunday or Monday, GasBuddy says. In San Diego County, the average price per gallon has increased by more than 40 cents over the last 13 days, AAA reports. The jolting increase in gas prices is a result of lower supplies caused by maintenance issues at several California refineries. The issues are reportedly affecting the Chevron and Marathon refineries in Los Angeles County at the same time. It's unclear when normal operations will resume. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Health officials have confirmed a positive case of COVID-19 at an assisted living center in the College Area.On Wednesday, 10News tried to get answers from Stellar Care Center, located just south of the College Area. On Tuesday night, San Diego County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten revealed that they were looking into a patient at the home who may have tested positive. “Our staff [is] investigating this situation and once it's determined if there's individuals or patients with influenza-like illnesses, the staff there will collect specimen and send them to our lab for testing,” she stated.Across the country, concerns over the spread of the virus in nursing homes continues to grow. In Kirkland, Wash., an outbreak of the virus at the Life Care assisted living center lead to at least 35 reported deaths, according the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In Louisiana, seven deaths have been linked to a retirement community out of New Orleans. 10News reached out to Stellar Care Center and San Diego County for additional information. A spokesperson for San Diego County writes, "I can confirm that there is a positive case of COVID-19 at Stellar Care Assisted Living. Skilled nursing facilities throughout the County have amplified their protocols to address the COVID-19 pandemic using strategies similar to those recommended by the County of San Diego in responding to an influenza outbreak. These protocols include limiting the amount of people in congregant settings (including meals, activities and visitors) while amplifying cleaning and sanitation measures and providing additional training for staff."The State Department of Social Services writes, “In order to protect confidentiality, we are not able confirm or provide details regarding specific individuals or locations.” 1835

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Home sales in San Diego County accelerated in July after declining on an annual basis for more than a year.New data from real-estate tracker CoreLogic shows 3,988 home sales in July, up 10.1 percent from July 2018. That marks the first time since April 2018 that home sales in the county did not decline on an annual basis, when seasonal factors do not impact the data. Meanwhile, the median price for a home sold in the county remained flat over the year at 0,000. In June, the average rate for a 30-year-fixed mortgage fell to 3.8 percent, according to Freddie Mac. That was the first time the rate was below 4 percent since Dec. 2017. It ticked down even lower in July to 3.77 percent. Mark Goldman, a loan officer with C2 Financial, said the lower rates likely helped people increase their buying power by 2 to 3 percent. "That same house is going to cost a little bit less, and help you afford more," he said. "A lot of times when market gives you something like lower rates, the market takes it back in the form of higher prices, and we’re not really seeing that."Goldman said there is less speculation in the market due to concerns that it has leveled off.
