The impasse is just the latest stumble in a partisan, monthslong battle over COVID-19 relief, and feelings hardened as the Senate congregated for a weekend session. Lawmakers on both sides said the sticking point was a provision by Republican Sen. Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania that would curb emergency Federal Reserve powers. (KGTV) – Infamous horse jockey Patrick Valenzuela pleaded guilty in court to domestic abuse, admitting to hitting his girlfriend at Fidel’s Restaurant in Carlsbad in September.He’s one of the most decorated thoroughbred horse jockeys with more than 4,300 wins. In 1989 Valenzuela won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, a seven-time winner of the Breeders' Cup races.But he’s been sidelined on the track for personal and drug abuse problems and fined 28 times in his career.His California license was permanently revoked at one point. Prosecutors say he smacked his girlfriend in a jealous rage for hugging a bartender.In a surprise move, his girlfriend addressed the judge, asking him not to issue a protective order that would keep Valenzuela away from his girlfriend. Prosecutors say he grabbed his girlfriend’s cellphone and hit her face causing her ear to go numb.They also say he chased her to her car and beat on her windows and that she was afraid to let him in the vehicle. (KGTV) - Several schools in the Vista Unified School District are returning back to virtual learning for two weeks after positive COVID-19 cases were identified.The district reopened for in-person learning at normal capacity, also known as Vista Classic, on October 20th. According to the district’s website, 17 cases have been reported since October 20th.District Superintendent, Dr. Matt Doyle, said Vista Classic and Vista Virtual were designed to work together so that there is the flexibility to move back and forth.Mission Vista High School, Vista High School, Madison Middle School, Roosevelt Middle School, and Rancho Minerva Middle School are also back to Vista Virtual due to positive cases.A class of 28 students and one teacher at T.H.E. Learning Academy Elementary school is also under quarantine after one positive case was reported.Last week the school unanimously approved a plan that would close down some middle and high schools for two weeks when positive cases are reported.The closures would happen if one school has two or more positive cases at the whole time, the entire school would switch back to Vista Virtual for two weeks. If three secondary schools have one positive case each, all three will return to Vista Virtual for two weeks.“I think two is tough; that doesn’t give us a lot of confidence that it won’t close down again,” said Dolly Goulart, a parent of a Mission Vista High School student who has been back to virtual learning.“I do appreciate that they’re doing trying to get classic families back in. They gave families a choice over the summer.”Goulart said her son’s transition back to Vista Virtual went smoothly.“From my perspective, it seemed perfectly seamless. He did fine pivoting back,” said Goulart. “He’s about a week into his two-week virtual pivot.”“We meet regularly with representatives from the S.D. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Detectives called off a suspect search in Vista after it was discovered that a juvenile accidentally shot himself in the leg Monday afternoon. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department was called to the 100 block of Paseo Marguerita in Vista around 3:45 p.m. after receiving reports of a male juvenile with a gunshot wound. While responding, deputies received information about possible suspects. Authorities found the juvenile near a small pond with a gunshot wound to the leg. Meanwhile, a neighboring school was given an order to lock down. After an extensive search for the suspects, deputies broke down a perimeter set up around the area. The boy was taken to the hospital in unknown condition. After investigating, detectives learned that the gunshot wound was self-inflicted and "appeared to be accidental." The department said it's no longer looking for any suspects. 907
