They say such a strategy could systematically check more people for infections and spot surges before they take off. The health experts say it would be an improvement from the current practice. Some experts say the lack of such a system is one reason for the current national explosion in cases, hospitalizations and deaths. There are differing opinions on what a national testing strategy should look like. NEW YORK CITY — Police are looking for a man they say assaulted a New York City bus driver who asked him to put on a mask before boarding the Manhattan bus.According to the NYPD, the unidentified man attempted to get on the northbound New York City Transit Authority (MTA) bus near Madison Avenue and East 29th Street around 2:30 a.m. Monday without a mandatory face covering.The bus driver, 62, stopped the man, telling him he had to put on a mask to ride the bus, police said.According to authorities, the man punched the bus driver in the face before fleeing the bus in an unknown direction.The victim suffered pain and swelling and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, police said.Face coverings or masks are required on all MTA buses, subways and trains as the city continues to battle the coronavirus pandemic.The NYPD has released the above surveillance images of the man for whom they're searching.This story was originally published by Mark Sundstrom and Rebecca Solomon on WPIX in New York City. 1022

Perez Arriaga was arrested after a dayslong manhunt as he prepared to flee to Mexico, authorities said.A casket carrying Singh's body and draped with an American flag was driven in a procession from Modesto into a theater in Newman where the marquee read "Ronil Singh Forever Remember" while several officers saluted.The casket was taken from the hearse into the theater for a viewing as the police department's 12 officers and Singh's family followed. A memorial service and burial is scheduled for Saturday in Modesto.Singh, who emigrated from his native Fiji to pursue a career in law enforcement, joined the Newman police force in 2011. The 33-year-old was married and had a 5-month-old son.Prosecutors said Perez Arriaga, 33, shot Singh after the officer stopped his vehicle to check if he was driving drunk. He has two previous drunken driving arrests, authorities said.At his first court appearance, Perez Arriaga told the judge that his real name is Paulo Virgen Mendoza, but authorities were still referring to him as Perez Arriaga in court documents. A complaint lists three aliases for him, including Paulo Virgen Mendoza.His attorney, Stephen Foley, questioned his client's mental competency, leading the court to delay the case until a mental health evaluation. NOBLESVILLE, Ind. -- A Noblesville, Indiana woman says a trip to the spa with her daughters ended with a serious infection and a long stay at the hospital.Jennifer White said she got the pedicure nearly two weeks ago at “Nails and Lounge” in Noblesville.Over the next two days, White said she noticed her foot start swelling and turning purple and decided to go to the emergency room.She was admitted to the hospital last Tuesday with a severe infection and she’s been there for nearly a week.“I was worried I could possibly lose my toe. I could lose my foot,” said White. “I’m out of work … all for that 35 minutes of getting a pedicure.”White says the doctors tell her that the scrapings on her foot probably caused a small incision which allowed an infection to enter her foot.“I’m still here and they’re saying it’s due to the fact that I went to the nail salon… unclean, unsanitary and it’s made the infection settle in my foot,” said White.According to the Indiana Administrative Code, the use of razor devices to shave, reduce or remove calluses or corns is prohibited at spas in the state.Nails and Lounge’s manager says they did not use any prohibited devices and that they sanitize and dispose of all tools according to state law. She says they also bleach the pedicure tubs after each use, but have ordered plastic liners for each tub because of this experience.The spa manager denies that their pedicure caused the infection but says they are open to working with White to pay for her medical bills.  1525
