A federal prosecutor says an ally of President Donald Trump was given special treatment by the Justice Department. The prosecutor is prepared to tell Congress Wednesday that political considerations affected the handling of the Roger Stone case. Career Justice Department prosecutor Aaron Zelinsky says he was told that a U.S. attorney was giving Stone favorable treatment because he was “afraid of the President.” Zelinsky's accusations were made public in testimony released before the hearing by the House Judiciary Committee. A federal judge has dismissed several charges against Dr. Jumana Nagarwala in the historic female genital mutilation case, ruling that the federal law against female genital mutilation is unconstitutional.U.S. District Court Judge Bernard Friedman ruled that Congress did not have the power to enact a federal law that banned female genital mutilation in the United States.Instead, Friedman made the argument that the law was too broad and it violated Congress' powers, as the law does not stand up to scrutiny under either the Necessary and Proper Clause or the Commerce Clause of the US Constitution.He also found that laws penalizing Female Genital Mutilation should be handled at the state level, similar to laws regarding Criminal Sexual Conduct, battery or child abuse.  Shannon Smith is the Defense Attorney for Dr. Nagarwala.  She says the ruling is "absolutely a huge victory. When you actually studied the law they enacted, there was no constitutional basis for them to enact the law. It’s really an issue that should be left to the states."Smith also claims the doctors did not perform Female Genital Mutilation, saying instead they performed a mild form of female circumcision."What Dr. Nagarwala was doing, if we had gone to trial, would have been vindicated that she was not mutilating little girls. While we’re happy with the victory and we’ll certainly take it, there’s a part of me that’s a little disappointed that the public isn’t going to see the evidence brought out at a trial to see that she was never guilty of it in the first place," Smith said.The ruling comes after Friedman also dismissed a "conspiracy to transport minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity" charge in January. That was the only count that could have lead to life in prison for both Nagarwala and Dr. Fakhruddin Attar.Friedman's ruling leaves two counts in place in the case. A Long Island woman is showing off the unlimited potential of a tiny home she’s created out of a school bus.Some people call it a magic bus, but Catherine Ovejas likes to call it “apartment 84,” named after her children, who are eight and four.It’s a 30-foot-long, 50-seat school bus that she gutted and turned into a tiny home that sleeps up to four people.“We have here what can be a sitting area, but also a sleeping area,” Ovejas said.She bought the used bus, and with a little outside help she spent six months converting it.It’s about three feet from the sleeping area to the kitchen.“We wanted it to be as self-sustaining as possible, so there is a 55-gallon water tank secured under the bus,” she explained. 728

A former assistant manager of a Michigan PetSmart has filed a lawsuit in which he claims he was fired for enforcing a store rule and a state-wide mandate requiring customers to wear a mask.Alex Brothers says he called police on July 19 when he saw a customer without a mask at the chain's store in Midland. According to Brothers' attorney, Jennifer McManus, the maskless customer was carrying a gun while shopping in the store."Because the man was openly carrying a weapon, my client decided the smartest course of action was to contact law enforcement about the fact the man was not wearing a mask, as required under the governor's executive order," McManus said.Midland police escorted the man from the store without incident. Two days later, PetSmart fired Brothers, who had worked at the store since 2015 and reportedly had an "excellent" performance record."He was told, 'Well, we know you feel really strongly about this mask issue,' and that was said during the termination meeting," McManus said.Michigan is one of many states that have adopted mandates requiring masks in public. But enforcement of those mandates often falls to retail or restaurant employees — and there have been several incidents in Michigan where such confrontations have ended in violence.In July, a dispute over masks led to a police-involved shooting near Lansing, Michigan. Two months earlier, a woman in nearby Macomb County, Michigan, was accused of attacking a worker after refusing to wear a mask. Also in May, 43-year-old Calvin Munerlyn was shot in the head after asking a family to put on masks before entering a Family Dollar in Flint, Michigan.McManus said those headlines were at the top of her mind when she heard about Brothers' case."Terminating your employee for trying to do their job in these unprecedented times is really unconscionable," McManus said.
