A new study about video gamers pretty much shatters the stereotype many people have about them.Researchers at the Queensland University of Technology in Australia conducted what they say is the first study on body mass index from a worldwide sample of e-sports players. What they found surprised even them.“When we went into the study, we were kind of expecting that the gamers would have a much higher BMI than the general population, but what we found was the complete opposite. We found that players tended to have up to 21% more likelihood of being a normal weight,” said lead researcher Michael Trotter.The study included hundreds of participants from 65 countries. It showed gamers were between 9% and 21% more likely to be a healthy weight. Players also drank less and smoked less than the general population.Trotter started the university's e-sports program before he started studying for his PhD. He says he was surprised that serious players focused on their health almost as much as their playing. He says players requested a personal trainer, a dietician, and a sports psychologist.The study also found the healthier players were the better players.“We found that the players who were in the top 10% of all players and we measured up to 2.5 thousand players, it wasn't a small study. We found the top 10% of all players were exercising significantly more than their lower ranked counterparts,” said Trotter.Trotter says the growth of e-sports is huge and future programs will need to look at this study and realize they must focus on the health of players.He also says future research will need to be done on the overall health of e-sports players, such as muscle mass and bone density. 1706

A North Carolina pastor who led a march to the polls over the weekend that ended with police pepper-spraying participants says he will lead another march on Election Day.On Saturday, Rev. Greg Drumwright led the "I Am Change" march in Graham, North Carolina, from a local AME Church to the Alamance County Courthouse.According to the Raleigh News & Observer, the march included a moment of silence for George Floyd, who was killed during an arrest in Minnesota this summer and whose death sparked a nationwide protest movement against police brutality.Following that moment of silence, the News & Observer reports that deputies and police officers used pepper spray on the crowd and began arresting participants. At least one journalist covering the event was arrested.Some participants told the News & Observer that they were given little warning as to the officer's decision to shut down the event. The Associated Press reports that Graham Police say they issued several warnings to the crowd to move from the roadway before releasing pepper spraying and later arresting eight people.On Sunday, Drumwright confirmed in a TV interview that he intends to finish the march on Election Day. A San Diego woman spent months stealing from visitors inside some of the city's fanciest waterfront hotels, Harbor Police say.Anjeanette Crumrine, 49, allegedly stole more than ,000 worth of items -- largely from the Hilton Bayfront, Manchester Grand Hyatt, and Sheraton Harbor Island. Harbor Police say she also stole a violin worth ,000 from a classroom at Point Loma Nazarene University. "It worked for her, so she just continued to do what she was comfortable with," said Harbor Police Sgt. Michael Dye. Crumrine often targeted guests attending conventions at the large hotels. She'd walk in, pick up a suitcase, purse, or briefcase, go into an empty bathroom, pick through it, before leaving, police say. Crumrine is also accused of using the stolen credit cards to buy gift cards, and one time changed into stolen clothes inside one of the hotel bathrooms before walking out. "If it's a convention you have people moving in and out of rooms," Dye said. "It's an easy target because she would go unnoticed."Police arrested Crumrine?on April 18 after a slow speed chase through Valencia Park. But the threat of petty crime isn't over.Harbor Police report 218 property crime instances so far this year, up 22 percent from the same time period in 2017."We're just extra careful.
