One of the largest anti-smoking groups is now going after cigarette makers for their trash.The Truth Initiative released a new video in an effort to combat the littering of cigarette butts. It debuted nationally last week during the MTV Video Music Award.The organization is tying this latest campaign into their public petition to get more businesses and public places to go smoke-free.Cigarette butts are the most littered item on the planet, and it’s the most picked up item from beaches all over the world.They contain hundreds of chemicals that show up in wildlife and waterways. The butts are made with a type of plastic that can take a decade or more to decompose.Cigarette makers have tried cleaning up their act over the years, but so far, nothing has really made a dent.There is a startup company that claims to have a biodegradable cigarette filter, which breaks down in a matter of days. The company says they are in talks with cigarette makers and are currently looking for a partner to start manufacturing the green filters. 1046

Ontario’s minister of sport said in a speech that the Ontario Hockey League will not have bodychecking this season.Lisa MacLeod told the Empire Club of Canada that removing purposeful physical contact is a necessity for all sports in the province to slow the spread of COVID-19“Not just in the OHL, not just in hockey in general, but in all sports,” MacLeod said. "We’re in a very serious game right now and the reality is we have to take those public health precautions.”The OHL announced Thursday that it plans to start a shortened season on Feb. 4, the last of Canada’s three major junior leagues to release a schedule.“Until such time as we arrive at an agreed upon Return to Play protocol with the Government of Ontario, the League will have no further comment on the matter of body contact,” the OHL said in a statement.The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League season started earlier this month, but the schedule has been affected by several COVID-19 outbreaks as well as provincial government restrictions. Agents on ATVs and the occasional semi truck are about all you'll see.But by the looks of everything being put up, it's clear those in charge know something may be coming and they want to keep it out.People familiar with the border project say the fence was put up in the last few days.The San Diego Sheriff’s Department says they are not involved with the construction in any way but that, “the department is currently evaluating the need and possible location of a 'free speech' area where citizens can peacefully express their viewpoints.”Meanwhile, local activists like Border Angels' Enrique Morones told 10News they are not aware of any mass protest that could take place, but they are worried about possible out of town groups coming in and causing a problem. In the same week as the one-year anniversary of the Standing Rock protests over the Dakota Pipeline, law enforcement is guarding this patch near the border as it could become ground zero for the immigration debate. 1248

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Officials say a body was found in an Orlando pond Thursday after reports of a possible gator attack on Wednesday.Officials say the body is a female in her late teens, early twenties, possibly Hispanic or black, there was no damage to the body or signs of trauma due to gator bites. The body was recovered at approximately 6:30 a.m. Thursday morning about 15 to 20 yards from where a resident reported seeing someone flailing in the water on Wednesday. The lake is located near Fabian Avenue and Reagan Avenue in Orlando  570
