SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer accepted a nine-figure loan from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Tuesday to help the city finance phase one of the Pure Water San Diego water recycling program.Faulconer joined EPA Acting Administrator Andrew Wheeler to formally claim the 4 million Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act loan. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego Convention Center announced its planned road closure windows Wednesday for Comic-Con 2019, scheduled for July 17- 21.Harbor Drive will be closed to all traffic between First Avenue and Park Boulevard from 3-10 p.m. July 17, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. July 18-20 and 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. July 21. The closure will affect all non-foot traffic, according to the convention center, including cars, bikes, skateboards and dockless bikes and scooters.Comic-Con attendees will also need a valid convention badge to access the convention center, its front drive and adjacent terraces and sidewalks. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Sales of previously owned single-family homes in San Diego County dropped 10.5 percent in July compared to June, according to data released Wednesday by the Greater San Diego Association of Realtors.Month-over-month single-family home sales fell from 2,221 in June to 1,989 in July. Condominium and townhome sales fell from 1,162 to 994, a 14.5 percent drop, according to the association.Single-family home sales and sales of condominiums and townhomes saw smaller decreases when compared to July 2017. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego's 73rd City Council was sworn in Thursday morning alongside new Mayor Todd Gloria, bringing a Democratic supermajority to the council chambers.Departing councilmembers Georgette Gomez, Barbara Bry, Chris Ward, Mark Kersey and Scott Sherman offered thanks to the citizens of San Diego and words of advice to incoming councilmembers Joe LaCava, Stephen Whitburn, Marni von Wilpert, Raul Campillo and Sean Elo-Rivera as the city faces one of the most tumultuous periods in its history.The 73rd City Council must contend with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and all the physical, economic and budgetary issues it presents the city. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego's Metropolitan Transit System announced today 40 local high school students who took part in an annual essay contest were awarded new laptop computers and backpacks.Students from more than 70 high schools around the county entered the MTS and Coca-Cola Laptop Scholarship Contest, which required the applicants to submit an essay on ways to get more students to use public transit such as lowering student transit passes.The winning students, from 27 schools, received a 15.6-inch HP Touch-Screen laptop and a Northface backpack that doubles as a laptop case. MTS officials honored the winning students on Friday at the 12th and Imperial Transit Center."It was great that winners came from so many campuses,'' said MTS CEO Paul Jablonski. "Their essays presented convincing ideas.
