SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Normal Heights dog owner is warning about a hidden danger at dog parks.Bosco, a 2-year-old bullypit, loves his treats and just about anything else his mouth can reach."He's a vacuum. He's eaten some weird stuff," said Mark Groveman.On Friday morning, the list of stuff got longer sometime during a 40-minute period. During that time, Groveman walked Bosco to the off-leash area at Ward Canyon Park and let him play. Eventually they walked home. Groveman put him in the house, left for work and returned home five hours later."He was laying on the bed, scared and shivering. He had wet the bed a couple times. He was arching his back in a weird way, swaying side to side. I thought he was having a stroke," said Groveman.Groveman decided to rush Bosco to the emergency vet."In the car, he was bobbing his head forward. He kept nodding off. Honestly I thought he was going to die. A lot of panic and some praying as well," said Groveman. At the vet, Bosco got a quick diagnosis."They said they are seeing it every day," said Groveman. Bosco likely ingested marijuana, which tests later confirmed. Experts say in some cases, eating marijuana for dogs can lead to seizures and in rare cases, death. Edibles and tinctures - with higher THC concentrations - are most concerning. According to the ASPCA, since the legalization of marijuana in California, dog toxicity cases have jumped 130%.In the case of Bosco, a slow heartbeat was initially a concern, but he was fortunately was back to his normal self 24 hours later."He has to run around and play, but I'm going to be a bit more aware," said Groveman. 1629

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A partnership with the United Way and the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council pulled off a donation drive-through at SDCCU Stadium Tuesday morning that served 500 families in need.Cars holding vouchers from the various unions represented by the council lined up and proceeded through the assembly line, loading up with food and toys donated by their fellow workers.Every year, thousands of union workers make a monthly donation from their paychecks to assist their fellow working families and community members in need. This year's recipients included fire victims and other families identified by several non-profit partners, according to representatives with the Labor Council."You've got electricians and teachers out here helping school bus drivers and janitors and security guards, those who have fallen on hard times and need a little extra help," says Keith Maddox with the Labor Council.Holding two events, one in San Diego and the other in Imperial County, 650 families total were served by the annual donation drive.Feeding San Diego helps procure the food for the drive, according to Unions United/United Way of San Diego County President and CEO Nancy Sasaki. 1209

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man died late Saturday night after a home caught fire in Paradise Hills.Fire crews say the fire erupted just after 10 p.m. on Calle Cumbre Street.Neighbors in the area reported hearing a loud boom before flames could be seen bursting from the homeFirefighters say neighbors then began breaking windows in an attempt to get the people trapped inside the home out.The two men inside the home were taken to the hospital where one of them died. The second man is in unknown condition.Fire investigators have ruled the fire accidental.  566

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A new program in San Diego County aims to keep elementary school children from falling behind during the summer months.Created by United Way of San Diego County, "Readers in the Heights" Literacy Summer Camp is a free program for families.Advocates say students who aren't reading at grade level by third grade are four times more likely not to graduate high school."This is indicative of how well they will do throughout high school, how much their earning potential will be as they mature into adults," said Ian Gordon, Chief Impact Officer. "This is really ground zero, if you will, for ensuring they do excel throughout life."In its third year now, the Readers in the Heights went from serving 40 children to now over 300. 758

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Navy official says three reported incidents depicting unidentified flying objects (UFOs), including one near San Diego in 2004, are real.Joseph Gradisher, spokesperson for the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Information Warfare, told The Black Vault, a website that investigates declassified government documents, the events shown in the three videos taken by Navy pilots depict "unexplained aerial phenomena" or "UAPs." Gradisher went on to say while the videos were declassified, they were never cleared for public release.The videos were posted for the public in December 2017 by the New York Times and To The Stars Academy of Arts and Sciences, a group that researches UFOs co-founded by the Poway native and former Blink 182 member Tom DeLonge.RELATED: Video shows UFO encounter off San Diego's coastGradisher told the The Black Vault the term UAP is used, "because it provides the basic descriptor for the sightings/observations of unauthorized/unidentified aircraft/objects that have been observed entering/operating in the airspace of various military-controlled training ranges."He added the Navy has not officially released any description of the incidents. The three videos, titled "FLIR1," "Gimbal," and "GoFast," show separate UAP incidents captured by Navy pilots. All of a sudden it takes off."Several months later, "Gimbal" and "GoFast" were released. "GoFast" reportedly took place in 2015. It shows a camera and sensor aboard a Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet jet track a fast-moving object, before pilots lock onto it."Whoa, we got it!" exclaims one pilot. Another pilot asks, "Wow, what is that, man? Look at that flying!"The Navy's classification and timing couldn't be better for DeLonge, who is set to debut a new miniseries on the History Channel.
