The legs of the Coronado Bay Bridge are covered in vibrant pieces, ranging from pieces like "Founding of Mexico City," "Birth of La Raza," and "Female Inteligencia."And over in Liberty Station another piece of local history at the "Greetings from US Naval Training Station" mural. Inside each letter of the postcard design is an era of the training station's history, from US Navy facility to public market."SeaWalls: Murals for Oceans," on Fourth Ave., was painted by the Cohort Collective to raise environmental issues. The group installed 18 murals around the county to bring topics of overfishing and ocean reef conservation to onlookers."There's not enough public art, we don't think, in San Diego. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Valley Fire continued to burn overnight in East County as evacuations remain in place.So far, the blaze has scorched 17,345 acres and is 3% contained, as of 6:20 p.m. on Monday. Authorities with the Cleveland National Forest tweeted Monday that the fire had only grown by 408 acres overnight.Monday morning, Cal Fire said new evacuation orders were in place for the areas of Corral Canyon off-road area, Bobcat Meadows, and Los Pinos.Evacuation orders have also been issued for Barrett Lake Dam, while evacuation warnings have been issued for Lake Marina, Dulzura, Dog Patch, Potrero, Campo, Honey Springs, Barrett Junction, Dearhorn Valley, Corte Madera, Pine Valley, and the area from Lyons/Japatul Valley Rd. to the 8 Freeway.Evacuation centers have been set up at Steele Canyon High School at 2440 Campo Road and Joan MacQueen Middle School at 2001 Tavern Road.Cal Fire said Sunday night that 11 habitable structures and 25 outbuildings have so far been destroyed in the fire. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The University of California San Diego is planning to make a new first impression. New renderings show the schools intentions of building a "‘grand entrance" to attract more students and people from San Diego. A 3,000 seat amphitheater, a six-building student center with retail and restaurants are just some of the things showcased in the new plans. “There is hardly a thing that exists in the Gaslamp or Balboa that doesn’t exist here,” said UCSD Chancellor Pradeep Khosla on the renderings. UCSD believes public transportation that’s being built near and on-campus will help with the future influx of people they want checking out their amenities. The blue line trolley and the three stations around the area are forecasted to be completed by 2021. “We want to be one more destination to the San Diego experience,” added Khosla, “we’re gonna change this campus to have these things so students can hang out and the community will come here to hang out too.” The price tag is still being worked out but it’s expected to cost well into the hundreds of millions of dollars. 1100
