EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV)- 10News took a trip around El Cajon to visit some of the spots most cherished by locals.The first stop was Summers Past Farms, right off Olde Highway 80. Here you can find a calm place to enjoy a freshly brewed cup of coffee and beautiful gardens."We get people from all over," said Owner Sheryl Lozier. They transformed their garage into their very own homemade herbal soap shop. They also have a gift shop on the site. Hogan said the cats are all relinquished by their owners. Approximately 70 cats of the 240 are up for adoption."Sit in the chair, sit on the floor, let the cat pick you," said Hogan. "The older cats are dollars, the cats under eight, up to about a year, those are dollars. And the kittens are 0 dollars."The cats are microchipped, spayed and neutered before they leave the shelter. They also come with a free ten-day vet visit.Or, you can simply come by and hang out with the curious cats, without making any commitments."The cozy cottage, this is where the lifetime care cats are," said Hogan as we took a tour of the facility. "We maintain these cats for life for people when they pass." Next up was Marechiaro's Italian Restaraunt also on Olde Highway 80.This family owned restaurant has been satisfying hungry customers for 64 years, 46 of those years in El Cajon."Making pizza is like riding a bike," said Owner Joe Brunetto. But, the most popular item is the pizza."The pizzas the way we make them now, is the same way 60 years ago," said Brunetto James. The most popular item is the combo plate which includes beef, ham and spare ribs.Owner JR Henderson has a real success story."I was here washing dishes, I start managing, then I bought the store," he said. That was in 2001."When I bought the store, I was scared, but I knew what I was doing," said Henderson.Decades later, he's still doing it all."There's nothing I don't do," he said. Their remains were found in Rexburg, Idaho, earlier this month on property owned by Daybell, their stepfather. The children's mother, Lori Daybell (née Vallow), was arrested in connection with their disappearance earlier this year.According to the probable cause affidavit for Daybell's arrest, the remains of one child was found wrapped in plastic and sealed with duct tape. The other was burned and buried next to a pet cemetery on the property.The documents also state that in the days before JJ's and Tylee's disappearance, Lori Daybell referred to her children as "zombies" in a conversation with a friend.Lori Daybell said part of her and her husband's religious beliefs was a mission to "rid the world of zombies."The document states that a "zombie refers to an individual whose mortal spirit has left their body and that their body is now the host of another spirit."Lori Daybell told a friend that JJ had become a zombie, loved Satan, and that the boy's "an increased vocabulary" was also evidence that JJ was a zombie. That same friend observed JJ's behavior and noted that it was the same as she had always seen him.TIMELINE: Investigation into Lori Daybell, disappearance of JJ Vallow and Tylee RyanCourt documents also state that GPS tracking put Lori Daybell's brother, Alex Cox, on Chad Daybell's property near the burial sites on Sept. 9 — one day after JJ and Tylee was last seen.Cox later died on Dec. 11. Authorities have since determined Cox's death was of natural causes.On the day officers searched Chad Daybell's home on June 9, he was seen observing officers conduct the search. When officers found the remains, he attempted to drive away and was later caught.Both Lori and Chad Daybell are now behind bars. Cases in recent weeks have risen sharply, and a rise in hospitalizations have corresponded in recent days.
