They have a men's line and a kids' line so the whole family can use it -- like I was very excited!"But Erin Ostby's excitement quickly faded when she says her hair began falling out after using the Monat hair products she'd been selling."I was crying to my husband, not just over my hair, but what had I done?"  She's what Monat calls a Market Partner -- someone who sells their shampoo and other hair care products on the company's multi-level marketing platform, which is mostly through social media.  RELATED: Women claim Monat hair products causing balding, scalp soresBut the young mother had to walk away from an increasingly lucrative business when she says she could no longer stand by the products."I was very nervous to say anything because of the backlash I have seen of other people that spoke out about what was happening."In three recently filed class action lawsuits against Monat, the company is accused of using strong-arm legal tactics to silence critics."We have to do that to protect ourselves from defamation," said Monat spokesperson Gene Grabowski, who would only agree to a phone interview. Toni Miller is one of the stylists Monat is suing for defamation."What I am seeing with this product in particular, it's not normal," Miller observed after working with clients who'd used Monat.Monat claims people like Miller are engaged in a smear campaign designed to promote competing products.  In their suit against her, they report 1,000 order cancellations in the last two months."When we tried to reason with our attackers who were bullying people online, bullying some of our market partners, bullying other customers and ridiculing them for using our product, we had to file a lawsuit to protect ourselves from the attacks," Grabowski said.But Miller says Monat is the bully. The company sent a letter to Posare salon, threatening to sue the owner if she didn't silence Toni or fire her.  As for consumers, Grabowski says, "Everyone is entitled to their opinion. By the way, there is not a constitutional right to complain about a company. A company has a right to respond any way it wants to." The Federal Trade Commission's Consumer Review Fairness Act "Protects consumers' ability to share their honest opinions about a business' products, services or conduct in any forum, including social media."  But that's not enough. This request for a restraining order against Monat was filed March 7 in South Florida, asking a court to protect consumers against Monat's "Threats, harassment and intimidation."Monat says one stylist has agreed to pay them to settle its claims against her.  Miller is still fighting.  Monat sent this statement for consumers: "If a consumer feels that he or she is having a negative reaction to MONAT products, we encourage them to speak with their Market Partner to obtain an intake form. (CNN) - As the Dow was on pace for its best day of the year, and a report showed American stores had their best holiday season in six years, JCPenney's stock fell below for the first time since it started trading in 1929.That's pretty much everything you need to know about the state of JCPenney (JCP).The 110-year old company hasn't been profitable since 2010 and its prospects are bleak. JCPenney is billion in debt with a junk credit rating, a sinking cash hoard and no sign of a turnaround.With few shoppers coming to stores, JCPenney faces inventory and supply chain struggles and no clear marketing plan or strategy. The company has been forced to offer steep discounts on clothing to clear its massive inventory glut.Last month, JCPenney reported a 1 million third-quarter loss and a 5.4% drop in sales. The stock has fallen 68% this year and nearly 30% in December alone.Jill Soltau, formerly the boss of Jo-Ann Stores, became CEO in October — the company's fourth in six years. Soltau has her work cut out for her.The company's leaders said they are considering closing some of JCPenney's remaining 860 stores. That might help JCPenney in the near-term, but its long-term prospects are questionable. The company has a .1 billion debt payment due in 2023. Wall Street analysts are skeptical about JCPenney's ability to repay that money.A spokeswoman for JCPenney declined to comment.The company never really recovered from the Great Recession. It lost shoppers to cheaper sellers a decade ago and struggled to bring them back as the economy began to rebound.JCPenney plowed through its cash reserve in an expensive makeover after it hired former Apple Store chief Ron Johnson as its CEO in 2011.  A Florida man has been charged with 144 counts related to cruelty to animals.The State Attorney's Office has charged 51-year-old Robert David Starkweather after investigators found what 77 cows, 48 calves, and 2 donkeys found on his Hendry County farm.Photos taken by the local Sheriff's Office showed animals as bags of bones."That's got to be the most horrific fate, worst way to go," local animal rescuer Carey Kendzior said. "These are massive animals and it would take months to let it get to that point of cruelty and neglect. There's no excuse."Rescuers came too late for some. There were 13 animals found dead upon arrival."I don't care who you are. No reason for you to be in charge of animals," Kendzior said.The Hendry County Sheriff's Office investigated the case with assistance from both the Lee County Sheriff's Office and the Collier County Sheriff's Office. The animals were sized and were taken from the property and moved to another location.One calf died and five had to be euthanized due to their poor health conditions after being looked at by a veterinarian.Dr. Laura Braun is a vet in Fort Myers. Braun was disturbed when she saw the photos. "That's not how cattle are supposed to look, not even close," she said.Starkweather will be arraigned on May 17. 1302

"Live PD," which airs on A&E and embeds cameras in police units throughout the United States, has been canceled by the network amid calls for reforms of police departments throughout the US.The episodes aired with a slight delay, but gave viewers a glimpse of police interactions with the public.Variety reported the show’s cancelation, and show host Dan Abrams confirmed the announcement on Twitter. Abrams said on Tuesday that the show would continue on.“Shocked & beyond disappointed about this,” Abrams tweeted. “To the loyal #LivePDNation please know I, we, did everything we could to fight for you, and for our continuing effort at transparency in policing. I was convinced the show would go on.”Live PD’s announcement comes one day after “Cops” ended its 31-year run on television.Live PD became embroiled in controversy this week when the show announced that it no longer retained footage of a police-involved fatality in Austin, Texas, from a 2019 incident. Live PD said that because an investigation had concluded into the officers’ conduct, Live PD deleted the unaired footage.“This is a critical time in our nation’s history and we have made the decision to cease production on Live PD. Going forward, we will determine if there is a clear pathway to tell the stories of both the community and the police officers whose role it is to serve them.
