Consider this. What would happen if there was a fire in your home and your smoke detectors didn't ring?An Elma, New York man is questioning how safe he was, with Kidde smoke detectors, having experienced that very situation.Roy Fedeson has lived in the same home for 35 years. He was out of town one weekend in February, working a manual labor job, when he got a call that the electrical wires coming from his house were arcing. 436

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla — Deputies say a trip to the ice cream store ended with a man getting scooped up by police for DUI.Deputies say 23-year-old Josh Verrot faces several charges, including DUI, battery on a first-responder and fraud. According to a Collier County Sheriff's arrest report, he was arrested Sunday evening outside the Royal Scoop ice cream shop on 8th street in the Vanderbilt Lakes community.Witnesses say that Verrot was driving recklessly in a car with two flat front tires when he pulled into the ice cream shop parking lot and went inside.  As he came out with ice cream, he heard approaching sirens and fled on foot.Deputies located him behind the store and say he refused to do sobriety tests. On the way to the hospital he reportedly bit a firefighter's finger, repeatedly spit toward authorities and yelled “blah-blah-blah” while authorities communicated with him.He also provided his brother's name when asked to identify himself. He's due in court at the end of the month. 1024

Cindy McCain, the widow of Arizona Sen. John McCain, has endorsed Joe Biden, the Biden campaign announced on Tuesday."My husband John lived by a code: country first. We are Republicans, yes, but Americans foremost. There's only one candidate in this race who stands up for our values as a nation, and that is Joe Biden," Cindy McCain tweeted Tuesday evening.Biden was on the 2008 Democratic ticket that opposed John McCain's presidential election.Biden told supporters during a fundraiser Tuesday that McCain would join him at several virtual campaign events on Tuesday.During the Democratic National Convention in August, a video aired highlighting the friendship between McCain and Biden as Senate colleagues. The video featured Cindy McCain.“My husband and Vice President Biden enjoyed a 30+ year friendship dating back to before their years serving together in the Senate, so I was honored to accept the invitation from the Biden campaign to participate in a video celebrating their relationship,” Cindy McCain tweeted. The Biden-McCain relationship has been well documented over the years. In 2017, following Sen. McCain’s brain cancer diagnosis, Biden appeared on ABC’s “The View,” which is co-hosted by the senator’s daughter Meghan McCain. The segment was emotional, as Biden discussed how he lost his son Beau in 2015 from the same type of cancer that ultimately killed Sen. McCain.McCain died in August 2018 from brain cancer. While McCain was once the standard bearer for the Republican Party, his influence in the party dwindled in his later years. In 2017, shortly after his cancer diagnosis, McCain joined just two other GOP senators in striking down legislation that would have repealed parts of the Affordable Care Act. McCain’s vote drew scorn from Republican leaders including President Donald Trump. The frosty relationship between Trump and McCain became evident following McCain’s death, when he opted in his will not to invite Trump to his funeral, but extended invitations to former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama. 2066

CORONADO, Calif., (KGTV) — Some Coronado residents are shocked and confused after getting a letter from the City, urging them to read the newly released Environmental Impact Report for the airport's "Land Use Compatibility Plan."Many worried that a new airport would be coming into Naval Air Base North Island. However, as 10News discovered, the San Diego Regional Airport Authority has no plans to expand the airport into the Coronado. Custom golf cart maker, Mike Matheny and his dog, Buddy, love everything about Coronado — even the blaring jet noise. "Well, that's the sound of freedom to me," Matheny said. But when he and his neighbors got a letter from the City of Coronado, urging residents to read the Environmental Impact Report for "Naval Air Station North Island Airport Land Use Compatibility Plan," many wondered, are they expanding the airport onto the base?"I think there are other avenues," Matheny said. "Everybody's talking about Brown Field being the most ideal. Expanding that and so forth. But I don't want it here in Coronado. I know that."Just the thought of commercial planes constantly roaring above his home, the increased traffic, and property values taking a nosedive made Matheny nervous. So 10News asked the San Diego Regional Airport Authority to clear the air. Are there plans to expand the airport into Coronado?"None whatsoever," Airport Authority manager, Ralph Redman, said. It turns out the 182-page document is one of 16 state-mandated reports that assess the environmental impacts of the current airport onto surrounding neighborhoods. The report shows there are no significant impacts to Coronado residents, except in the "Land Use and Planning" category. If adopted, 1,000 residents who live in the same area as Matheny would have strict restrictions on future property developments. "We wouldn't want a school or a high rise building to be built right off the end of a runway," Redman said. "We are trying to limit the amount of density that would go into that area."So with no plans for a new airport, Matheny and Buddy can breathe a sigh of relief. Back to living the life in his sweet Coronado home. "Every time you come across the bridge, you just feel like you're in paradise," Matheny said. The Airport Authority is asking stakeholders and Coronado residents to submit their input on the Environmental Study by Feb. 7, 2020. In the end, the City of Coronado will decide if they will adopt the Airport Authority's Plan. That vote will take place this spring. 2515

CUPERTINO, Calif. – Apple announced Tuesday that it has committed to becoming 100% carbon neutral across its entire business by 2030.The tech company says its corporate operations are already carbon neutral, but now it plans for its supply chain and product life cycle to be too.The new commitment means that by 2030, every Apple device sold will have net zero climate impact, the company said.Apple also released a report Tuesday, detailing its plans to reduce its emissions by 75% by 2030 while developing innovative carbon removal solutions for the remaining 25% of its comprehensive footprint.Apple released a “Climate Roadmap” it will follow as it seeks to lower emissions. Some key points of the plan include increasing the use of low carbon and recycled materials in its products, lowering energy use at its facilities, relying solely on renewable energy, tackling emissions through technological improvements, and investing in forests and other nature-based solutions to remove carbon from the atmosphere. To support its efforts, Apple says it’s establishing an “Impact Accelerator,” which will focus on investing in minority-owned businesses that drive positive outcomes in its supply chain and in communities that are disproportionately affected by environmental hazards.“Businesses have a profound opportunity to help build a more sustainable future, one born of our common concern for the planet we share,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “The innovations powering our environmental journey are not only good for the planet — they’ve helped us make our products more energy efficient and bring new sources of clean energy online around the world. Climate action can be the foundation for a new era of innovative potential, job creation, and durable economic growth. With our commitment to carbon neutrality, we hope to be a ripple in the pond that creates a much larger change.”Click here to learn more about Apple’s plan. 1936
