LARGO, Fla. — A Largo, Florida, man has been charged with murder after his 7-week-old daughter died after suffering multiple serious injuries while in his care. Anthony Suffoletto, 28, was arrested on March 5, 2019 and charged with murder in the first degree and aggravated child abuse. On February 28, 2019 at approximately 2:30 p.m., the child's biological mother left the 7-week-old infant in Suffoletto's care while she went to pick up an older sibling. During the time Suffoletto was left alone with his daughter, the infant stopped breathing. Suffoletto told detectives with the Largo Police Department that he woke up to the baby making a moaning sound and gasping for air and instead of calling 911 right away, he went upstairs to a bathroom with the infant and splashed cold and hot water on the baby. Suffoletto reportedly called the baby's mother at 3:12 p.m. to let her know about the child's breathing. The mother returned to the house at 3:20 p.m. and the mother called 911. The infant was taken to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Doctors say the infant suffered a "violent event" with multiple serious injuries and an evaluation revealed that the infant suffered rib fractures, both left and right tibia fractures, a left femur fracture, subdural and subarachnoid hemorrhages and suffered multiple retinal hemorrhages, according to the arrest affidavit. Further examination revealed the infant's injuries were consistent with non-accidental trauma. Suffoletto and the child's mother told detectives that the baby was in good health before she left the house to pick up the older sibling. The mother told detectives that Suffoletto "commonly gets frustrated with the child due to the baby being fussy," according to the arrest affidavit. The arrest document lists Suffoletto's place of employment as The City of Clearwater. His job title is listed as Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator. The city says it is currently trying to serve him with termination paperwork, which has been signed by the city manager. 2057

Leavenworth Police Chief Pat Kitchens says an active-duty solider at Fort Leavenworth helped stop an active shooter Wednesday on the Centennial Bridge over the Missouri River. In a news conference, Kitchens said the incident started on the Kansas side of the bridge. That's when a 34-year-old soldier from nearby Ft. Leavenworth stepped in and "saved the day" by striking the suspect with his vehicle, according to Kitchens."He saved countless people," Kitchens said.Kitchens said the suspect, described as a Platte County, Missouri man, was armed with at least a handgun and a semi-automatic rifle and was firing seemingly at random at cars on the bridge after getting out of his car.The suspect was injured in the crash with the soldier and was taken to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries.Another active-duty solider from Fort Leavenworth, was struck by the suspect's fire. That soldier's injuries were also not life-threatening.The soldier that stopped the shooter was not injured.Initially, police responded to the bridge around 11 a.m. on a possible road rage incident. The shooting incident was contained to the bridge and all parties have been detained. The Missouri Department of Transportation said the Centennial Bridge, which connects Leavenworth with Platte City, Missouri, has been closed for the investigation. 1348

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — An 11-month-old Tennessee boy left in a bathtub without supervision has died and his mother is facing charges of murder and abuse after telling authorities she left the child to have some “me time." A hospital spokeswoman says the boy died Friday morning. An arrest warrant says 32-year-old Lindsee Leonardo told police she left the boy and a 23-month-old sibling in the tub Wednesday so she could smoke a cigarette and have some “me time." She told police she was away for about 10 minutes and returned to find the child floating on his back and not breathing. The toddler wasn't injured. 620

In Gilroy, California, garlic is everything and everywhere. The "stinky rose--as they call it--is this community's cash crop, it's identity and the root of the local economy. And now, this homegrown produce is being impacted by international politics.“The second we heard about these tariffs, we were elated,” says Ken Christopher of Christopher Ranch, Gilroy’s top garlic producer. Christopher is talking about new tariffs recently passed down by the Trump administration. These tariffs are increasing taxes on all kinds of imported goods, including garlic, which Christopher says gives them a level playing field after years of competing against what he claims are illegal import practices.“American garlic farmers, we're not afraid of competition,” Christopher says. “We're more than happy to compete with other countries like Mexico, Spain, and Argentina, because they play by the rules. It's when non-market actors like China try to compete and distort the rules that when we get upset.”Christopher Ranch is the Gilroy's largest employer and its last garlic farm.Christopher tells us that before 1993, almost all garlic consumed in America was grown in America. He says, however, that all changed when Chinese importers started illegally flooding the market with tens of millions of pounds of garlic. “When that happened, there used to be 12 garlic farmers in America; now there's only three,” Christopher says. “It’s tariffs like these that protect the final garlic farms here.”These tariffs also appear to protect the price of garlic. Before these tariffs went into effect, a box of California grown garlic was trading at a box at most, while imported Chinese garlic was selling for a box. After these new tariffs went into effect, the price of Chinese garlic has increased to more than a box.“When you're talking about a 25 percent on all inbound Chinese garlic, that means there's going to be a demand for California grown garlic,” Christopher says. “That's going to mean more production, more jobs, higher wages, investment in infrastructure, and a real economic shift in our community.”With harvest just a few weeks away, American garlic farmers says these tariffs couldn't have come at a better time. 2235

In the words of Taylor Swift, internet trolls need to calm down. The "ME!" singer has dropped the second single her new album. The song is a clapback to bullies on the internet titled, "You Need To Calm Down."Swift opens up the otherwise bubbly tune by singing, "You are somebody that I don't know / But you're takin' shots at me like it's Patrón."At the end of the verse, she tacks on the lyric, "snakes and stones never broke my bones" -- a nod to her previous album, "Reputation," in which snakes played a major role. The chorus gets straight to the song's title with the lyrics, "You need to calm down, you're being too loud."But instead of attacking her trolls, Swift sounds concerned for them. She sings, "Hey, are you okay?" in the first verse and follows it up in the second verse with, "Why are you mad when you could be GLAAD?"The lyric generating the most buzz comes about halfway through the song and solidifies Swift's support for the LGBTQ community: "And control your urges to scream about all the people you hate / 'Cause shade never made anybody less gay."Swifties, as the singer's devotees are called, will have to wait until Monday, June 17 for the accompanying music video. In an Instagram Live on Thursday, Swift promised the video will be "worth the wait.""You Need to Calm Down" is one of 18 tracks on "Lover," which releases on August 23. And while Swift described the album as romantic, she insisted that it's not going to be filled with upbeat songs."I think you can find romance in loneliness or sadness or going through a conflict or dealing with things in your life," Swift said. "It just looks at those things with a very romantic gaze." 1674
