Travelers might be wise to check for flight delays before heading to the airport this week, especially if you have a flight to the Gulf Coast, Georgia or the Carolinas as Hurricane Michael disrupts air traffic. As of Tuesday evening, several commercial airports in Florida have announced closures in advance of the hurricane's landfall. Panama City Airport announced all flights for American, Delta, Southwest and United Airlines are canceled until at least Thursday morning. The airport says it anticipates a Thursday start-up, pending a post-storm assessment. Destin-Ft. Walton Beach Airport announced it will close at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday and remained closed until further notice. At Tallahassee International Airport, all commercial flights have been canceled for Wednesday with an expected resumption of 8 a.m. on Thursday. Pensacola Airport is also shutting down operations at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday until further notice. Delta said it is ferrying its fleet from the affected airports to Atlanta during the hurricane. Action has been mostly on the state and local levels.On Monday, California lawmakers approved a trio of bills to reduce the number of people with firearm access, including lifetime bans for people convicted of domestic violence or individuals placed on involuntary psychiatric holds twice in one year.Florida also tightened gun controls, by raising the age to purchase a firearm to 21 and banning bump stock.In Connecticut, the governor signed a bill banning bump stocks. Deerfield, Illinois banned assault weapons, within city limits, and in New Jersey, it’s required that therapists and counselors alert law enforcement if a patient has threatened serious violence against themselves or others. The short answer is no," Dr. Sam Aznaurov, cardiologist at Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center, said.Dr. Aznaurov said the only way people in this range would have to start medication is if they have another underlying cardiac disease. Your risk doesn't change either. Instead, it's a wake up call. ""I'm looking at this as more of the start of a formal conversation," Dr. Aznaurov says. "Saying, 'Hey maybe you should get a blood pressure cuff at home and start monitoring that blood pressure and bring in those numbers for us to review together at your next visit.'"The lower score is expected to triple the number of younger men considered hypertensive and double the number of younger women with high blood pressure. Tofu, the red panda — a recent addition at?Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium — died Tuesday, according to a press release from the zoo today.The preliminary pathology report indicated that the 3-year-old red panda, which arrived in Omaha from the Detroit Zoo in October 2017 and joined the new Asian Highlands exhibit in May, likely died of a condition that is known to afflict the species, according to the release.Tofo had excess fluid in her abdomen and chest cavity, "a finding that is most commonly observed in cases of heart failure or cardiomyopathy... (which) are population-wide health issues within the red panda species," the release states.The red panda could have also died of inflammation of the heart from bacterial or viral causes, the release states.According to the release, the Omaha zoo "intends to collaborate with other pathologists and scientists regarding their findings in hopes to better understand these health issues."The zoo still exhibits two red pandas: one female and one male, the release states. 1054
