This was the opportunity to share those incredible moments from the battle that turned the tide in WWII.Doctor Charles Monroe served during the battle and said this was the most challenging moment he faced, "One Jap Zero was above, I looked back and looked up and pulled my gun up to try and shoot him and the turret stopped working and the gun stopped working, so I prayed. I wasn't a Christian, but I prayed and said ,'Lord get me out of this mess and I'll go to church,' and I kept my word."Monroe was paired with Paige Dominguez, 26, who is enlisting as a hospital corpsman. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The City of San Diego is rolling out the second phase of the polystyrene foam and single-use plastics ordinance as the Memorial Day weekend kicks off. Starting May 24, a ban on the sale and distribution of egg cartons, food service ware and food trays made from polystyrene foam begins. The ban includes bowls, plates, trays, cups, lids and other similar items designed for single-use. According to the city, polystyrene foam doesn’t biodegrade and can be mistaken for food by marine life and other animals. Acceptable alternatives include recyclable plastic, aluminum and recyclable paper products, the city says. Some businesses that make less than 0,000 are exempt until 2020. “The City’s goal is to achieve zero waste by 2040,” said the City’s Environmental Services Department Director, Mario X. Sierra. “This ordinance not only helps in achieving that goal, but also improves water quality, reduces pollution and keeps our environment healthy.” 980

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The city is gearing up to begin enforcing its ban on electric scooters on its beach boardwalks.The ban, which goes into effect Feb. 29, will apply to shared mobility devices on the boardwalks at La Jolla Shores, Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, and the bayside walk area of Mission Bay. Despite being illegal, the scooters will be geo-fenced to 3 miles-per-hour on the boardwalks, which the city says is slower than typical walking speed and the safest way to enforce the ban. The move comes as scooter companies continue to pull out of San Diego amid other new regulations. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The boy who was critically injured in a crash in San Ysidro joined his parents Friday outside the courthouse where the alleged driver is on trial.Prosecutors said Constantino Banda Acosta, an undocumented immigrant, was drunk May 6 when he hit the Lake family on their way home from Disneyland.Lennox Lake was hospitalized for 18 days with multiple skull fractures.
