CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Four Eastlake Middle School students were arrested Wednesday after reportedly bringing an “explosive device on campus.” According to the Chula Vista Police, school resource officers with the department were called to the school after receiving reports of an explosive device found on campus. After arriving, officers learned that the device had already been detonated. No students were harmed and no property damaged, police say. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- No charges were filed Thursday against a Chula Vista police officer arrested last week after a reported domestic violence incident, though the case remains under investigation, according to a spokesperson for the District Attorney.Leopoldo Armando Chousal, 27, was arrested on March 14 on the 6400 block of Potomac Street in a reported off-duty domestic violence incident.He was booked on one count of making criminal threats to harm his girlfriend.RELATED: Chula Vista officer arrested for off-duty domestic violence incident"CVPD takes these allegations seriously and was disappointed to learn of this incident. We are cooperating with SDPD’s criminal investigation and we are conducting an internal investigation concurrently," CVPD Lt. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - The City of Chula Vista is launching a new pedestrian safety initiative after seeing a sharp increase in fatal crashes last year.According to the Chula Vista Police Department, nine pedestrians were killed in 2017 on city streets. That’s up 125% from 2016.In the first three months of 2018 there have already been three fatal pedestrian crashes, a 200% increase from the same period last year. Police say it's the first time in four years they’ve had more than one pedestrian killed within the first quarter of the year.The map below shows those killed in auto-pedestrian crashes between January of 2017 to March of 2018. In an effort to combat the trend and educate the public, the city unveiled a new campaign on Thursday called “Stay Safe Chula Vista.”To kick off the program they have named April as “Pedestrian Safety Awareness Month.” The Chula Vista Police Department along with the Fire Department and Department of Traffic Engineering will be working together on enforcement and education.CVPD will have increased patrols targeting both drivers and pedestrians who violate traffic laws. CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A Chula Vista company that sells health and wellness products received a letter from the Federal Trade Commission Friday warning company representatives to halt alleged claims that its products could treat or prevent COVID-19.Youngevity International Inc. was issued a letter stating that claims made on the company's website or through social media posts "unlawfully advertise that certain products treat or prevent" coronavirus.The FTC alleges one such claim made by Youngevity "business opportunity participants or representatives" includes a statement that with certain company products, "your body will be able to withstand and eliminate Covid-19 and the vaccines forthcoming for Covid-19."The agency also states that a link on the company's website marked "FlattenTheCurve Shop Immune Support" redirects users to the company's online store, where various "immune support" products are available for sale.Phone calls made to the company were transferred to Youngevity CEO Stephen Wallach, whose voicemail mailbox was full Friday afternoon.The FTC's letter states that it is unlawful to advertise that a product can prevent, treat or cure human disease without scientific evidence or studies substantiating such claims, of which there are none for COVID-19 in relation to Youngevity's products.The letter to Youngevity was one of six sent to companies across the country on Friday. The FTC also sent a batch of nearly 100 letters last month to various companies allegedly claiming their products and therapies could treat or prevent COVID-19, including four based in San Diego: ActiveHerb Technology Inc., Aspire Regenerative Health, EcoShield, LLC and Forever Ozone. 1699

CINCINNATI -- Just days after calling for a national boycott of the Kroger Co., the Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. brought his fight to the corporation's front porch.The Rainbow Push Coalition Local Steering Committee invited Jackson to Cincinnati as he continues his protest over Kroger closures in predominantly black neighborhoods. Kroger closed three unprofitable grocery stores in Memphis in February, mirroring its closure of a store in Cincinnati's Walnut Hills neighborhood last year. The company said its East McMillan Street location had lost millions of dollars over years."We wrote a letter to the leadership of Kroger, and they did not respond to us," Jackson said. "This is a pattern across the country. There are enough mouths to be fed and people to be served for Kroger to stay in the community.
