On Tuesday, president-elect Joe Biden will formally introduce his picks to head up several key positions in his presidential administration from his transition headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware.During his remarks, Biden confirmed reporting on his choices to fill six key roles in his upcoming administration.Watch the remarks in the video below: Biden's future nominees include:Anthony Blinken, former deputy national security adviser, for Secretary of StateAlejandro Mayorkas, former Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security, to lead the same agencyAvril Haines, former Obama Principal Deputy National Security Advisor, for Director of National IntelligenceLinda Thomas-Greenfield, a longtime member of U.S. Foreign Service, to serve as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.Jake Sullivan, Biden campaign policy adviser, as National Security AdviserJohn Kerry, former Secretary of State and Democratic presidential nominee, to be Special Presidential Envoy for Climate.Reports have also surfaced in recent days that Biden intends to nominate former Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen as the Secretary of the Treasury, though he did not make such an announcement on Tuesday.Biden's selections represent a return to a reliance on career bureaucrats and longtime Washington policy advisers for top executive branch positions. Throughout his term, President Donald Trump has filled top posts in his administration with candidates from the private sector.Biden's press conference will take place less than a day after the General Services Administration ascertained him as the winner of the 2020 election. The move grants Biden access to key information, like the daily presidential brief, and funds that can be used to begin hiring key positions.Cabinet-level positions require Senate confirmation, meaning that depending on the outcome of two runoff races in Georgia in January, Biden may face challenges in filling top positions. Democrats will need to win both Senate races to reach 50 seats in the Senate, and would then control the chamber as Vice President Kamala Harris would hold the tie-breaking vote. 2115

OCEANSIDE, Calif., (KGTV) — The regional shutdown of many business sectors begins Sunday at 11:59 p.m., leaving thousands of people jobless in the middle of the holiday season.Donald Murray is a regular customer at Copperwood Barber Shop in Oceanside."[I get the] 'High and tight' I guess is what they call it," Murray laughed. "Low maintenance."Brothers Allen and Sherman Morris opened the shop in 1988, serving thousands of customers simple cuts. But this year, business has been anything but simple."We don't understand why they keep shutting us down," barber Adriana Hinojosa sighed.Hinojosa says since the pandemic began in March, customer numbers dipped under 50%. Owner Sherman Morris has not been into his shop due to health risks."We don't want him to get sick," Hinojosa said. The old school shop made adjustments with every new restriction, serving customers in every other chair, buying sanitation goods, and even going outside for a few weeks."This summer, it was hot, we were sweating, the customers were sweating, so it was kind of hard," Hinojosa said. But once again, they must shut their doors completely. According to the State, other sectors facing the same shutdown include:— indoor and outdoor playgrounds— indoor recreational facilities— hair salons and barbershops— personal care services— museums, zoos, and aquariums— movie theaters— wineries, bars, breweries, and distilleries;— family entertainment centers and amusement parks— cardrooms and satellite wagering— live audience sports"Making these guys jump through hoops, I don't think is right," Murray said.As Hinojosa makes her final buzz, she braces for what will be a holiday season with much fewer gifts under the tree."We are going to be with our families. We are going to stay home," Hinojosa said. "But there's not going to be presents or other relatives because of the COVID." 1869

Nurses are a critical group to get on board with taking and recommending COVID-19 vaccines. They're already the number one trusted worker by Americans, according to a new Gallup poll. And they’re seen to have the highest honesty and ethics values.“What I am advocating or stressing is that nurses need to know exactly how the mRNA vaccines work,” said Dr. Ernest Grant, President of the American Nurses Association (ANA). “You know, because they're going to be needed to help persuade the public that they need to take the vaccine as well.”Grant isn't just asking nurses to be vaccine advocates. He’s one himself. He took part in the modern vaccine trial.Grant says he believes he got the vaccine, not the placebo, because of the fatigue he felt after the second shot.He says vaccines come at a time that will not only save lives, but also keep more nurses from leaving the profession due to burnout and stress.“It’s tough to go to work to work 12 hours or 16 hour shifts a day and have, you know, maybe a death every other hour or so,” said Grant.Nurses are also losing their lives. About 400 in the U.S. have died as a result of providing care for COVID-19 patients, according to the ANA. 1197

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - Decades after serving in World War II, a North County veteran is receiving one of the nation’s highest honors. Willie Pong enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943; he was only 17 but lied about his age. He served almost three years as a ship's cook.Pong's parents were born in China and moved to America to give their kids a better life, which they did. But as a boy, Pong faced discrimination. I have scars on my head right now from kids throwing rocks at me because I was Chinese," said Pong.Despite the bullying, Pong leaped at the opportunity to serve his country. "Oh yeah! I'm a true American. I'm a true American all the way. Just because of my color, don't mean a thing, it's inside my heart," said Pong. OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — San Francisco Giants manager Gabe Kapler knelt during the national anthem along with several of his players before first pitch of a 6-2 exhibition win against the Athletics in Oakland. Right fielder Jaylin Davis and first base coach Antoan Richardson also took a knee, with shortstop Brandon Crawford standing between them with a hand on each of their shoulders. Davis held his right hand over his heart and Richardson clasped his hands in front of him.Kapler shared his plans to kneel during the anthem with the team earlier Monday, according to ESPN, telling the team they would be supported by the Giants no matter what they decided to do."I wanted them to know that I wasn't pleased with the way our country has handled police brutality, and I told them I wanted to amplify their voices and I wanted to amplify the voice of the Black community and marginalized communities as well," Kapler said, according to ESPN.President Trump tweeted shortly after, saying he was looking forward to the return of sports, "but any time I witness a player kneeling during the National Anthem, a sign of great disrespect for our Country and our Flag, the game is over for me!" 1195
