Joe Biden has formally clinched the Democratic presidential nomination, setting him up for a bruising challenge to President Donald Trump that will play out against the unprecedented backdrop of a pandemic, economic collapse and civil unrest. The former vice president has effectively been his party’s leader since his last challenger in the Democratic primary, Bernie Sanders, ended his campaign in April. But Biden pulled together the 1,991 delegates needed to become the nominee after seven states and the District of Columbia held presidential primaries Tuesday. Biden reached the threshold three days after the primaries because several states, overwhelmed by huge increases in mail ballots, took days to tabulate results.Heading into Super Tuesday, Biden was the underdog. He lost contests in Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada and was struggling to fundraise. Then, Biden scored a huge win in South Carolina on February 29, thanks in large part to endorsements and support from prominent black Democrats in the state. Following the South Carolina race, opponents Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar dropped out of the race and endorsed Biden. Biden was able to parlay his success in South Carolina into a massive Super Tuesday which catapulted the former vice president from underdog to favorite overnight. As the spread of COVID-19 forced Biden and opponent Bernie Sanders off the campaign trail, Sanders opted to drop out after the Wisconsin primary, leaving Biden standing alone.Biden will formally be nominated in August at the Democratic National Convention. The convention is slated to be held in Milwaukee, but it’s unknown if the coronavirus could interfere with having an in-person event. Across the country, new gender-neutral salons are charging by the minute and not the gender.At Bee Sweet Salon giving unique cuts is nothing new, but how they price them is cutting edge."Our salon is gender-free, especially when it comes to pricing," said owner Dani Bee.Clients at the Bee Sweet Salon pay by the time spent in the chair, not by their gender."It's an arbitrary way to price a haircut," said Bee. On average, women pay about for a cut, while a man pays on average, according to The Beauty Association.Emily Hope Dobkin was tired of paying more for her haircuts than her husband was paying for his. She said the time they spend in the chair was the same. "The price would go up every year, and I was like maybe. I shouldn't be getting my haircut this often because I can't afford it," Dobkin said.It’s not just haircuts that are priced by gender. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The U.S. Coast Guard announced Thursday that, at sundown, they would be suspending the active search for two firefighters who never returned home after a boating trip off the Florida coast.Officials say Brian McCluney and Justin Walker were last seen leaving a Port Canaveral boat ramp on Friday morning in a 24-foot center console. According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the two men were heading toward 8A Reef, a popular fishing spot. On Monday, crews found a tackle bag belonging to one of the men about 50 miles off the coast of St. Augustine. That bag is the only piece of debris located that belongs to the men during the search. During a press conference on Thursday, Coast Guard Capt. Mark Vlaun said the search was a "race against time." 777
